Real Madrid have already presented an official contract offer to veteran midfielder – report
Several murmurs for the past couple of months have indicated that Toni Kroos may decide to retire at the end of the current season, when his Real Madrid contract expires.
It is believed that the World Cup winner wishes to retire on a high, as he remains one of the best midfielders in Europe.
Added to that, the former Bayern Munich lynchpin is believed to be willing to bid farewell to his storied spell at Real Madrid, in order to give the younger players more of a chance in the side.
However, Los Blancos wish to prolong their love affair with the all-time great, whose current deal expires in 2023.
As per the latest information provided by journalist Tomas Gonzalez Martin (h/t Madrid Xtra), Real Madrid have sent an official contract proposal to Kroos until 2024.
The 32-year-old has asked for time to take a final decision, as he is mulling over whether he will be at the required level to maintain his exceptional performances for the club.
Ultimately, Carlo Ancelotti’s men seem to be planning for their long-term future, especially in the absence of a legend such as Toni Kroos.
The signing of Eduardo Camavinga from Rennes last year was an indication that the club consider the wonderkid as a successor to the ageing midfielder.
While the Frenchman played a bit-part role last term, his brilliant cameos off the bench in the Champions League knockout rounds hinted that he may well have the minerals to replace the club icon.
With Jude Bellingham also linked with a move to the Spanish capital, who is known to be at his best as a number eight, he could succeed Toni Kroos as well.
However, a contract renewal would be welcome news, as Kroos is still one of the best of the best.
Ancelotti insisted earlier today that he thinks that the former German international signs an extension. “Toni Kroos is very calm ahead of his future. He will think about his future in January. But I think he will continue at Real Madrid,” he said.
For now, an official proposal is already on the table and it is up to Kroos to decide whether he signs it or not.

Real Madrid held talks with Thomas Tuchel before he signed for Bayern Munich

Before he was hired by Bayern Munich as the direct replacement for Julian Nagelsmann, Thomas Tuchel was closely linked with a move to Real Madrid at the end of the season.
The German tactician had kept a close eye on the development at Santiago Bernabeu, especially with coach Carlo Ancelotti facing immense pressure following the club’s poor performances in domestic competitions.
A recent report from Jorge Picon has offered more details on the Tuchel saga, suggesting that the coach was even learning Spanish during his time at Ibiza, anticipating a potential move to Real Madrid at the end of the season.
There were even contacts made between Tuchel’s entourage and Real Madrid. Although the talks were positive, the two sides were not able to reach an agreement.
Real Madrid did not guarantee him the job. They had informed Tuchel that Ancelotti may continue at the Bernabeu in the event the club win the UEFA Champions League this season.
This bit of uncertainty played a critical role in convincing Tuchel to join Bayern Munich instead. The former Chelsea boss was hired as a direct replacement for Nagelsmann, who was sacked after a poor season in the Bundesliga by the club’s high standards.
However, Tuchel’s move to Bayern appears to be a missed opportunity on the German’s part, as Real Madrid have recently intensified their search for a new manager.
It is clear that the club’s hierarchy is yet to reach a consensus over the future of Ancelotti, with some believing that a change is necessary come the end of the season. In fact, the club’s president Florentino Perez has been an admirer of Tuchel’s compatriot Nagelsmann.
The coaching prodigy is one of the candidates to replace Ancelotti in the summer, though it is Mauricio Pochettion who is reportedly leading the race so far.
