Over the past 48 hours, news surrounding Kylian Mbappe’s future has reached a new level of unpredictability.

Some reports went as far as to suggest that the Frenchman had agreed on a move to Real Madrid while others stated that he has rejected Los Blancos outright yet again.

What is clear from the development is that nothing is known about the Frenchman’s future. As it stands, he continues to keep all his options open paying no heed to Real Madrid’s alleged mid-January deadline ultimatum.

Melchor Ruiz of El Partidazo de COPE provides the latest update on Mbappe’s saga.

No offers yet

According to the Spanish journalist’s update, Real Madrid have not made any offer to Mbappe yet, contrary to the word going around so far. Further, they have not imposed any date or ultimatum on his decision.

There is thus no movement in the Real Madrid offices over the attacking phenom’s arrival, for Real Madrid simply do not see it to be worth the effort.

The Merengues have been let down by the player one too many times before and insist that a move will happen only if the player initiates it.

Moreover, Los Blancos are no longer going to be convinced by a verbal commitment from the player. If he wishes to sign for them, they insist that it be through a written pre-agreement in the winter so as to avoid any late twists.

Real Madrid will not match his wages at PSG nor will go on a bidding war for his signing. If Mbappe pushes for a move, he will have one but with a lower wage and signing-on bonus than what was promised two years ago.

If he does not arrive this year, the door will shut permanently.

Two years ago, Real Madrid were in a state of uncertainty over their future. Having a few pieces of their puzzle solved, Mbappe was seen as a necessity for the long term.

That, however, has changed in recent times. The bursting of Jude Bellingham on the scene, Vinicius Jr.’s positive growth plus the high ceilings of Rodrygo Goes and Endrick have Real Madrid covered in the final third for the long term.

Mbappe, thus, is no longer seen as an absolute necessity at the Spanish capital and the same is reflected on their approach to his transfer. It is not a question of the player’s desire and willingness to take the risk and make the move.

Speaking in an interview with Sport BILD (h/t AS), Germany legend Michael Ballack has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Wirtz is a player that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring for a while now, with the German sensation being seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement yesterday.

A move for Wirtz is being planned for the summer of 2025 and Ballack believes that the Bundesliga title winner with Leverkusen is ready for the big move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid,” said Ballack.

“In terms of football, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB: when you play with even better players, you become even better,” he added.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2027. As things stand, the new German champions have no intentions of selling their prized asset this year.

However, there appears to be an acceptance that the German international will be on the move in 2025.

Other top clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested, but Real Madrid are likely to beat them in the race should it come down to that next year.

A move for Wirtz, though, could cost in excess of €100 million for Real Madrid should they do indeed decide to proceed with his signing next year.
