Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham has seen his goalscoring form taking a severe hit since the turn of the year.

However, on Sunday night, the Englishman pulled off an outstanding performance to help Real Madrid secure a narrow 3-2 victory over Barcelona, effectively sealing the title race in the process.

Bellingham most notably scored the winner during stoppage time to clinch all three points for his side. But his overall performance in the game was also excellent, as he showed an immaculate attacking display.

Raul praises Bellingham

In the wake of Real Madrid’s victory in the Clasico, former Real Madrid forward Raul has heaped praise on Bellingham, even backing him to become one of the club legends in the years to come.

“He has been the young player who has impressed me the most upon his arrival at Real Madrid. In his first press conference, he spoke like a veteran and he has conveyed that to every fan and worker at the club,” Raul said at an event (h/t Diario AS).

“It is very difficult to find a player like that and he has earned affection for his way of being, playing and for goals that give victories in a Clasico

He transmits, he knows how to move into space, he nods, he connects with people and that makes him special. He will be a legend at Real Madrid,” Raul added.

Bellingham has indeed been a spectacle this season, racking up 21 goals and 10 assists in all competitions since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund last summer.

Raul, in fact, was not the only footballing legend who hailed Bellingham. Fabio Capello and Marcel Desailly were present at the same event.

“It is a surprise that an Englishman has triumphed so soon in La Liga,” said Capello, who also has a Real Madrid past.

Desailly, meanwhile, praised Bellingham’s intelligence as a footballer. “Bellingham is super intelligent and that gave him a chance in the classic,” Desailly noted.

The performance against Barcelona could go a long way in boosting Bellingham’s confidence as the Englishman looks to star in Real Madrid’s remaining matches, including two crucial UCL semifinal legs against Bayern Munich.

As Real Madrid gear up to face Borussia Dortmund in the finals of the UEFA Champions League this weekend, a number of their players interacted with the press today as part of the UEFA Open Media Day.

Jude Bellingham was one of the stars who answered questions from the media ahead of what will be an emotional game for him against his former club, in his homeland.

The England international has enjoyed a spectacular debut season at Real Madrid and is seen as a strong contender for the Ballon d’Or this season.

However, when asked about the Golden Orb, Bellingham tipped his Madrid teammate Vinicius Jr. as his pick to win the prestigious honour this year.

“For me, Vinicius is the best in the world. He creates magic out of nothing. He has everything to be the best,” said Bellingham, as quoted by The Athletic’s Guillermo Rai.

After all, Vinicius has also enjoyed a scintillating campaign and is one of the frontrunners to walk away with the Ballon d’Or, owing to his clutch performances for Real Madrid.

The Brazilian also spoke to the media today and was asked about the Ballon d’Or. Interestingly, he went on to name Bellingham as his pick to win the Golden Ball.

“I would give the Ballon d’Or to Bellingham,” he said, as quoted by Carrusel.

When Bellingham was informed about Vinicius picking him as the favourite for the Ballon d’Or, the England international responded by saying:

“If that’s how he feels, then you can split it in two (laughs).”

The responses show the strong bond and camaraderie that the two superstars of Real Madrid share.

Both are contenders to lift the Golden Ball this year and a win in the Champions League, coupled with strong performances in the summer’s international tournaments, would further enhance their chances.
