Real Madrid legend Luka Modric has a new offer on the table that would bring an end to his career as an active footballer but continue his journey at the Santiago Bernabeu.

As reported earlier today, Carlo Ancelotti has offered Modric a spot in his coaching staff for next season as the midfielder will be out of contract at the end of the current campaign.

Modric was understood to have initially said no to the idea, but was claimed to be giving the prospect a thought as he assesses his options.

Modric wants to continue playing

Now though, Tomas Roncero of AS is reporting that Modric is not contemplating retiring from the game at the end of the season and still believes he can continue playing for another season.

The 38-year-old midfielder appreciates the offer made by Ancelotti, although in principle he turned it down as he considers that he still has some football left in his tanks, and wants to continue playing, whether at the Bernabeu or at a new club.

It has been a difficult situation for Modric this season, as he has fallen from a regular starter to a rotation player in Ancelotti’s plans.

Indeed, the veteran club legend’s game-time has taken a serious hit, with Ancelotti not using him in crucial games like the ones against Atletico Madrid, Girona, and RB Leipzig earlier this month.

It has given way to speculations that Modric will likely leave at the end of the season when his contract expires, but Ancelotti offered him a way to stay at Real Madrid, but as a coach.

The player, though, has turned down that idea. As far as his future as a footballer is concerned, nothing has been decided as of yet and it still remains to be seen whether he continues at Real Madrid or opts to move on.

Real Madrid will sign off on their successful La Liga campaign today with a fixture against Real Betis at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The game, being seen as a final preparation for the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund, sees manager Carlo Ancelotti field his strongest possible lineup.

All eyes will obviously be on the retiring Toni Kroos, who bids goodbye to the Bernabeu in what will be his final home game as a Real Madrid player.

The German international starts in the centre of the park alongside Federico Valverde, while Eduardo Camavinga slots in as the No. 6.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid captain, Nacho Fernandez, also starts in what could be his last game at the Bernabeu as well.

Nacho pairs up with Antonio Rudiger in defence, flanked by the full-back pairing of Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy. Thibaut Courtois starts in goal ahead of Andriy Lunin and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Up front, Vinicius Jr. starts in attack, partnering up with Rodrygo Goes. Top scorer Jude Bellingham occupies the attacking midfield role for Real Madrid.
