The value of mental fortitude in a football player’s career cannot be understated. For a sport where the competition is brutal, it is part and parcel of any aspiring player’s career to fall into troughs regularly.

Only those with the resilience and thick skin manage to get back onto the saddle and warrior on.

According to reports from Rodra (h/t The Madrid Zone), Real Madrid are impressed by Endrick on that front. They see his mental fortitude to be unparalleled and the core reason behind his successes over the past year.

A struggle that bore fruit

Endrick’s year with Palmeiras did not get off to the best of starts. There was a point in the season when Real Madrid were worried about his situation, for he was suffering a severe drought for minutes.

From there, the youngster held on and took his chances to impress. Over the course of the season, he slowly found his way back into the manager’s plans and has now become the team’s most valued player.

Furthermore, he made his debut for the Brazilian National Team and has won the Brasileirao with Palmeiras.

Voices in the Merengues’ administration commonly state that Endrick has the legs of Pele, conferring serious praise on the teenage talent. With him set to join Los Blancos at the end of the season, the spotlight will be on him.

The tale of his transfer

The Spanish journalise goes on to add the tale of how Endrick signed for Madrid after a prolonged transfer saga. The team’s administration toiled for months in his pursuit and were forced to select between him and Mathys Tel.

In the end, Juni Calafat and Co closed Endrick’s signing in a deal worth €70 million. The youngster rejected clubs including Barcelona and PSG to join Carlo Ancelotti’s side and arrives as one of their biggest signings of next summer.

Real Madrid indeed have their eyes set on Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, with the latter rumoured to have one final chance in the coming January. However, it is clear that the team’s long-term plan revolves around Endrick and Endrick alone.

Shocking Modric, Vinicius, Cristiano fact makes Real Madrid fans ‘feel old’

Luka Modric is set to stay with Real Madrid for another season, meaning he will have played more seasons with Vinicius Jr. (7) than he did with Cristiano Ronaldo (6).

Feeling old yet? We thought so too!

Modric joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2012 after four seasons with Tottenham Hotspur. On the other hand, Vinicius Jr. joined Real Madrid in 2018.

By the end of the 2023/24 season, Modric and Vinicius will have spent six seasons together. This is the same number of seasons Modric played with Cristiano Ronaldo, who was at Madrid from 2009 to 2018.

However, with Modric set to stay for another season, he will surpass that, playing more seasons with Vinicius than with Ronaldo, the club’s all-time top scorer.

A new contract for Modric

It is important to note that Real Madrid and Modric have reached an agreement in principle for his contract renewal for another year.

At 38, Modric’s contract was set to expire at the end of the current season. For a while, it seemed the Croatian star might leave Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

However, things have changed recently, and Real Madrid have decided to offer him a new contract.

Interestingly, Real Madrid have also offered a renewal to Toni Kroos with club president Florentino Perez personally involved in the negotiations.

Modric and Kroos will continue

Reports suggest that Modric has agreed to the new proposal, with an agreement in principle now in place. It is also expected that Kroos will accept his offer, meaning Real Madrid will keep both veteran players for another season.

The Croatian was reportedly willing to accept a pay cut and a reduced role in the team to continue playing for Real Madrid. This flexibility may have sped up the agreement process.

His willingness to adapt to a reduced role and accept a pay cut has likely influenced the club’s decision to renew his contract for one more year.
