According to Rodra, Real Madrid are among a host of European teams willing to make an offer for Celta Vigo youngster Fer Lopez.

Lopez had an impressive season with Celta’s reserve team and with seven goals and numerous standout moments, the 20-year-old has caught the attention of many top clubs.

Among these clubs, Real Madrid are facing stiff competition from their long-time rivals, Barcelona. It must be noted that Barcelona first expressed their interest in Lopez about a month ago, adding fuel to the competitive fire between the two football giants.

Despite the growing interest, however, nothing substantial has materialised so far.

Celta seeking renewal amidst Juventus interest

It must be noted that Lopez’s contract with Celta Vigo runs until 2025 and the team is actively trying to renew his contract to secure their rising star for the future.

Meanwhile, adding to the competition, Juventus have now entered the race for the youngster and the Italian club is reportedly very serious about acquiring the Spanish player, though no official offers have been made yet.

Celta Vigo, on their part, are holding firm on Lopez’s release clause, which is approximately €10 million. This amount sets a clear benchmark for any club looking to sign the young talent.

On the home front, Celta remain hopeful about extending Lopez’s contract and for that, the club has been in discussions with his representatives for months, aiming to protect and develop their budding star.

The club’s management believes that with the right approach, Lopez can soon become an integral part of their first team and despite the allure of bigger clubs, they are optimistic about keeping him in Vigo.

Celta’s plan for Lopez is to gradually integrate him into the first team’s training sessions. If head coach Claudio Giraldez sees fit, he could start getting playing time in the First Division.

If not, he will continue to contribute significantly to the reserve team as many within the club see him as the natural successor to Iago Aspas, given his skills and playing style.

Real Madrid are in active negotiations with LOSC Lille for the transfer of Leny Yoro. After weeks of impasse, the club appear to have made some ground in the race to sign the Frenchman.

However, should the Yoro deal fall through in the coming weeks, Real Madrid have identified Lazio’s Mario Gila as the ideal alternative.

Formerly of RM Castilla, Gila currently plies his trade for Lazio and has emerged as a key defensive lynchpin for the Italian outfit, impressing onlookers with his technique and discipline.

Mario Gila picks up fresh injury

However, in a major development, it appears Mario Gila has picked up a fresh injury during training, reports Diario AS.

In the pre-season camp at Auronzo di Cadore, Gila appears to have fractured his left foot and could be out for several weeks.

Lazio confirmed the defender’s injury, stating, “Mario Gila underwent clinical and instrumental examinations which revealed a fracture of the phalanx of the big toe of his left foot, suffered during training.”

Gila has started taking the appropriate treatment and the extent of his injury will be known soon. However, as things stand, the defender could be out for at least the next few weeks.

What does this mean for Real Madrid?

Mario Gila’s fresh injury setback is sure to dwindle any hopes of a potential return to Real Madrid this summer.

In any case, Gila’s chances of returning to Santiago Bernabeu were slim given that Real Madrid have finally made some ground in the deal to sign top defensive target Leny Yoro.

Los Blancos, though, would have liked having someone like Gila available as an alternative, especially with LOSC Lille still demanding a fortune for the Frenchman.

Unfortunately, that might not be an option anymore, no thanks to Gila’s injury. The club, though, will keep a close eye on the Spaniard’s injury situation, knowing he could return to fitness before the end of the summer break.
