Over the years, Real Madrid and Barcelona have battled for the signings of several young talents, particularly those emerging on the Brazilian footballing scenes.

The two clubs butted heads for the signature of Neymar, Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo Goes, and more recently Endrick as well.

And, it appears that there will be an El Clasico war for another up and coming young prodigy from Brazil in Estevao Willian.

Real Madrid monitoring Estevao

Indeed, as per a report from journalist Jorge C Picon, Real Madrid are keeping a close watch on the development and progress of Palmeiras wonderkid Estevao.

The teenage attacking midfielder is shining bright at the ongoing FIFA Under-17 World Cup, leading Brazil to the quarter-finals on the back of his three goals and three assists.

At his club, Estevao is likened to Barcelona legend Lionel Messi and goes by the nickname ‘Messinho’ due to similarities in how they play.

“He is the closest thing I have seen to Messi. Because of the way he handles the ball, always close to his left foot,” a club source said.

The 16-year-old is following in the footsteps of Endrick, who broke out at Palmeiras and is soon headed for Real Madrid.

The report adds that Real Madrid chief scout Juni Calafat, who is already working on two more operations to sign Brazilian players, has known Estevao for years and has positive reports about him.

And if Estevao, who has a €60 million release clause in his contract with the Brazilian, continues on his current trajectory, Los Blancos would be open to making an investment to sign him, like they did with Endrick.

Estevao dreams of playing for Barcelona

While Real Madrid may have a strong interest in Estevao, what does not work in their favour is that the teenager wants to play for Barcelona.

In fact, in a recent interview, the 16-year-old admitted that he dreams of playing for the Blaugrana.

When asked about his biggest dream, Estevao admitted“To play for Barcelona, which is one of the best clubs in the world. I was born watching Neymar, Messi, and Suárez play for Barcelona and that’s the dream I have.”

The teenage sensation admitted that he follows the Blaugrana very closely, saying: “Yes, I watch almost every Barça match, I’m a fan of the club. I have great admiration for the players who play there and I hope to be there too.”

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has said that during a recent training session, he bumped into Raul, a former striker and current Castilla manager, who confessed to him that he did not like his decision to retire from the game.

The midfielder added that he would now be interested in playing the Legends match where the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Carlos and Raul participate.

The veteran admitted that playing alongside these legends one day would be quite exciting.

“When I left the training yesterday, Raul was outside. He told me that he did not like the decision at first but found something positive because now I’m definitely playing this legends game with him,” said Kroos on his podcast

“He said I had to be there. Me and Zizou playing behind him, Figo on the right, and RC3 (Roberto Carlos) at the back. That could be funny,” he added.

Life after Toni Kroos

During the early hours of Tuesday, May 21, Kroos announced that he would retire from professional football after the upcoming European Championship in his home country.

As a result, Real Madrid now have to work on an alternate strategy to plan life beyond Kroos. As suggested before, the Los Blancos are of the idea that at present, there is no one in the market who can fill the void.

On the other hand, though, Dani Ceballos’ chances of staying have now increased. At the same time, there are reports that Joshua Kimmich is being monitored, but nothing seems concrete yet.

For now, Real Madrid are largely expected to rely on the current roster as the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde and even Jude Bellingham are more than capable of occupying Kroos’ position.

If even that does not work out, the team from the Spanish capital can look into the youth system to rope in a capable alternative.
