The winter transfer market is not one Real Madrid usually interferes in. However, it is a significant opportunity for several clubs across the globe that wish to fill the cracks in their squad midway through the campaign.

With the January window in full flow, players have begun switching allegiances as expected. One of the biggest moves of the window thus far, needless to say, is Tottenham’s reported signing of Radu Dragusin beating Bayern Munich in the process.

Real Madrid’s unexpected entry

It is no secret that players across the globe consider Real Madrid to be the pinnacle of football with every stint of theirs being a distant audition to sign for the Spanish giants.

Speaking even before his client’s move to Tottenham is made official, Dragusin’s agent Florin Manea openly admitted that Real Madrid was the ultimate dream.

“We are only at the beginning of the road, we want him to reach the best teams in the world. We were close, Bayern are among the biggest clubs, but his dream is Real Madrid or Barcelona.”

“If he was 23 or 24 years old and had more experience, maybe he would have decided to go to Bayern, but we took many things into account; his age and the competition,” he added on his client’s decision to sign for Spurs.

Last, but not least, he was asked where he saw his client in four years’ time, to which he said: “In three or four years I see him at Real Madrid.”

Madrid’s centre-back situation

Come June, Real Madrid are expected to go all out to sign a new centre-back. After all, the 2023-24 campaign has shown them how shallow their reserves are, especially with three players being on the wrong side of 30.

Antonio Silva, Goncalo Inacio, and Leny Yoro are the team’s primary bets, and Dragusin’s agent has now brought the Romanian defender’s name into the fray as well.

Considering that his contract at Tottenham will likely run until 2029, however, signing him as early as the summer transfer window is ruled out for Los Blancos.

Speaking in an interview with Sport BILD (h/t AS), Germany legend Michael Ballack has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Wirtz is a player that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring for a while now, with the German sensation being seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement yesterday.

A move for Wirtz is being planned for the summer of 2025 and Ballack believes that the Bundesliga title winner with Leverkusen is ready for the big move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid,” said Ballack.

“In terms of football, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB: when you play with even better players, you become even better,” he added.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2027. As things stand, the new German champions have no intentions of selling their prized asset this year.

However, there appears to be an acceptance that the German international will be on the move in 2025.

Other top clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested, but Real Madrid are likely to beat them in the race should it come down to that next year.

A move for Wirtz, though, could cost in excess of €100 million for Real Madrid should they do indeed decide to proceed with his signing next year.
