Real Madrid have been rocked by injuries to key players this season, with players like Thibaut Courtois, Vinicius Junior and Eder Militao suffering long-term knocks.

This has left Real Madrid in a precarious position, with Carlo Ancelotti having limited depth all around the park.

But in what can only be described as a curse, it appears Real Madrid have been dealt with yet another injury blow.

David Alaba suffers ACL knock

According to Fabrizio Romano, David Alaba has picked up an ACL injury and could be ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

This comes on the back of Real Madrid’s 4-1 win over Villarreal. Even though Alaba had started the game alongside Antonio Rudiger at centre-back, the Austrian picked up a knock in the first half and had to be substituted around the 35th-minute mark.

This is Real Madrid’s third ACL injury of the season after Courtois and Militao’s early-season knocks. These injury blows have left Real Madrid decimated at the back.

In fact, Ancelotti is now only left with Nacho Fernandez and Rudiger as the only two reliable options in central defence.

What’s in store for Alaba’s future?

David Alaba’s ACL injury is likely to affect his future big time. After all, the Austrian was recently linked with a move away from Santiago Bernabeu following a series of inconsistent performances.

Real Madrid were even considering a sale of the former Bayern Munich starlet, with an asking price of around €60 million.

Clubs like Manchester United, Juventus and Al Ittihad are among the clubs interested in acquiring his services.

But with the defender now being ruled out until the end of the season, Alaba looks likely to stay at the Bernabeu, at least until he gets back to full fitness.

Bundesliga title-winner ‘is ready for Real Madrid’, says former German great

Speaking in an interview with Sport BILD (h/t AS), Germany legend Michael Ballack has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Wirtz is a player that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring for a while now, with the German sensation being seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement yesterday.

A move for Wirtz is being planned for the summer of 2025 and Ballack believes that the Bundesliga title winner with Leverkusen is ready for the big move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid,” said Ballack.

“In terms of football, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB: when you play with even better players, you become even better,” he added.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2027. As things stand, the new German champions have no intentions of selling their prized asset this year.

However, there appears to be an acceptance that the German international will be on the move in 2025.

Other top clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested, but Real Madrid are likely to beat them in the race should it come down to that next year.

A move for Wirtz, though, could cost in excess of €100 million for Real Madrid should they do indeed decide to proceed with his signing next year.
