Real Madrid now know the path they must navigate if they are to win the 2027 Spanish Super Cup.

The competition is moving to Istanbul, where Madrid will face Real Sociedad in the semi-final before a potential Clasico or Madrid derby in the final.

The Spanish Football Federation has signed the agreement for Istanbul to host the tournament from 2 to 6 February.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad will be the four participants.

Real Madrid to face Real Sociedad

Madrid’s semi-final against Real Sociedad will take place on 3 February at the Tupras Stadium, the home of Besiktas.

The stadium has a capacity of 42,590 and will provide a new setting for Madrid’s attempt to secure the first Spanish trophy available in 2027.

Barcelona and Atletico will contest the other semi-final one day earlier at Fenerbahce’s Chobani Stadium.

That means Jose Mourinho’s side already knows exactly what awaits them. Beat Real Sociedad and Madrid will face either Barcelona or Atletico in the final.

Final set for Ali Sami Yen

The final will be staged at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium, home of Galatasaray, with a capacity of around 52,000.

Three different Istanbul stadiums will therefore be used across the competition, with a combined capacity of roughly 150,000.

Istanbul replaces Saudi Arabia as host for this edition.

The tournament had been staged in Saudi Arabia since 2020, apart from 2021, but the country cannot host the 2027 edition because of a scheduling clash with the Asian Cup.

Mourinho has a chance to win his first trophy

For Real Madrid, a change in result from recent years would ideally be more important than a change in the tournament’s location.

A one-off tournament can quickly become important for Mourinho’s project. Madrid will need only two victories to lift the trophy.

Real Sociedad must come first, and looking beyond that semi-final would be a mistake. The Basque side have a tendency to punch above their weight and have proven to be giant killers.

Still, a Clasico final carries obvious intrigue. It is the fixture most football fans want to see in the Super Cup final.

Istanbul may be unfamiliar territory for the Spanish Super Cup, but Jose Mourinho will have a familiar objective: add another piece of silverware to his record.

Jude Bellingham has been undisputedly one of the star performers in the UEFA Nations League so far, in this international break.

Bellingham started with a valiant effort in the defeat to Spain, before starring in the 7-0 win over Croatia. Last night, he was on fire once again, helping England secure a 3-0 victory over Czechia.

As club football resumes this weekend, it is fair to say that Bellingham will be one of the most in-form players at Real Madrid.

Bellingham on fire

Bellingham’s spectacular form has continued throughout the international break, with the midfielder registering one goal and four assists in four matches for England.

The standout display came against Croatia, where he produced a goal and three assists in the emphatic 7-0 win.

He made England history with that four-goal contribution, creating five chances and completing four dribbles while boasting a 100 percent pass accuracy.

Against Spain, he was comfortably England’s best player, assisting Anthony Gordon’s opener and leading the attacks.

In the final game against the Czech Republic, it was Harry Kane who stole the show with a brace on his record-equalling 125th cap, but Bellingham once again started as an undisputed figure in Tuchel’s side.

The Englishman has shown no signs of his form being a mirage, having rediscovered his best since being handed a free attacking role.

A key figure for Real Madrid

Bellingham’s resurgence is a hugely positive sign for Real Madrid, who have struggled for consistency this season.

Operating as a number 10 with freedom to roam, the 22-year-old has already scored three goals for the club, making him the second-highest scorer behind Kylian Mbappe, while also leading the team for assists.

His current scoring rate of one every 206 minutes is not far off his brilliant debut campaign.

That form has drawn widespread praise, with Roy Keane tipping him to become one of the greatest of all time, while Jermaine Defoe backed him to become England’s next captain.

For Jose Mourinho, having Bellingham firing on all cylinders is a massive boost. With a demanding run of fixtures ahead, including El Clasico, the Englishman’s leadership and quality could prove decisive as Real Madrid look to close the gap on Barcelona.
