Real Madrid legend ‘certain’ to leave despite Ancelotti’s offer to join coaching staff

Earlier today, reports emerged claiming that Luka Modric was offered a chance to join the Real Madrid coaching staff by Carlo Ancelotti next season.

The 38-year-old’s current contract with Los Blancos runs out at the end of the ongoing season and his future at the club is far from certain.

There have been conflicting reports about whether he will continue or leave in the summer, given that his game-time has taken a major hit this season.

Amidst this, Ancelotti reportedly offered the Croatian international an opportunity to join the club’s coaching staff, which would mean he will have to call time on his playing career.

Modric ‘certain’ to leave

As has already been reported, Modric has rejected the proposal from Ancelotti as he intends to continue playing football at least for another year.

Building on that Sportske Novosti from Croatia is reporting that Modric is ‘certain’ to leave Real Madrid in the summer.

As per the update from the Croatian publication, the 38-year-old club legend did not even consider the option of joining Ancelotti’s coaching staff as he still wants to continue playing.

But with that unlikely to happen at the Santiago Bernabeu, it seems like a given that the midfielder will be on the move in the summer, although his next destination is far from clear.

Modric is upset about his situation as he was promised regular minutes when he signed a new contract last year, but has been reduced to a marginal role, especially in recent weeks.

It must be remembered that Modric turned down a multi-million offer from clubs in Saudi Arabia last summer to continue at Real Madrid. But now it seems that a parting of the ways is on the cards.

Speaking in an interview with Sport BILD (h/t AS), Germany legend Michael Ballack has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Wirtz is a player that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring for a while now, with the German sensation being seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement yesterday.

A move for Wirtz is being planned for the summer of 2025 and Ballack believes that the Bundesliga title winner with Leverkusen is ready for the big move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid,” said Ballack.

“In terms of football, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB: when you play with even better players, you become even better,” he added.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2027. As things stand, the new German champions have no intentions of selling their prized asset this year.

However, there appears to be an acceptance that the German international will be on the move in 2025.

Other top clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested, but Real Madrid are likely to beat them in the race should it come down to that next year.

A move for Wirtz, though, could cost in excess of €100 million for Real Madrid should they do indeed decide to proceed with his signing next year.
