Speaking at a recent media appearance, former Real Madrid star and club legend Luis Figo has sung praises of veteran midfielder Luka Modric.

The former Portuguese international lauded the 38-year-old superstar for the way he continues to defy age and continue to perform at the highest level.

Despite having turned 38 years old earlier this month, Modric continues to be an elite performer for club and country.

While it is true that his role has taken a marginal hit this season, the midfielder showed his class and quality in the game against Getafe just before the international break.

And, speaking to RTL, Figo had some special words of praise for Modric, as he said:

“Luka is a good friend, I have nothing but words of praise for him, not only as a professional but also as a person.

“It’s amazing what he does at his age, as if he runs on batteries, because of the talent he constantly shows. I’m satisfied that he’s happy doing what he loves and I hope that he will continue to succeed.”

The former Real Madrid and Barcelona superstar was then asked to choose between his compatriot and another Los Blancos legend Cristiano Ronaldo and Modric, to which he replied:

“They are different, they are very good friends, I will not choose one because then one would lose. They are the best in the world in their positions, they wrote history and continue to write history, and that is the most important thing.”

Modric signed a new contract with Real Madrid earlier this year to continue at the club for one more season.

But things have not started well for the Croatian as he has found himself warming the benches more often than not, a situation that has certainly not pleased him.

However, the 38-year-old remains committed to turning his situation around at the Santiago Bernabeu in the weeks to come.
