Federico Valverde has continued to remain a key asset to Real Madrid in these early parts of the campaign.

The midfielder has featured in all the first five matches of the season, even scoring a crucial goal against Real Sociedad this past weekend.

However, it appears Valverde has been playing for Real Madrid with a hand injury over the past few weeks.

Valverde admits hand injury

Valverde surprised everyone earlier this month when he appeared in the Getafe game as a substitute, with a bandage on his right hand.

Now, more than two weeks later, the Real Madrid star has admitted that he has been dealing with a hand injury throughout the month.

“I suffered a fracture in training, in a duel. I went to grab another teammate and my hand got caught. It hurts, but I can play and that’s the important thing,” Valverde said (h/t Mundo Deportivo) shortly after the Real Sociedad game.

Given Valverde’s hand injury, one can be forgiven for expecting Carlo Ancelotti to give him a breather in the coming weeks, especially considering the number of options he has in midfield.

However, as things stand, Valverde is playing without any problems. Although the midfielder still has pain in his right hand, he continues to play without any issues.

The Uruguayan international, therefore, could continue to feature in Real Madrid in the weeks to come.

That said, it will not come as a surprise to see him receive a breather when Real Madrid kickstart their Champions League campaign this midweek.

The European giants are slated to face Union Berlin, with German international Robin Gosens already excited about the clash.

Real Madrid will be looking to return to winning ways as they get set to take on UD Las Palmas in a couple of hours at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Following the derby debacle against Atletico de Madrid last weekend, it is imperative for Los Merengues to bounce back strongly tonight.

With kick-off not very long away, Carlo Ancelotti has announced the starting lineup that will be stepping onto the pitch to face Las Palmas.

Ancelotti has changed things a fair bit from the derby defeat, with both Luka Modric and Toni Kroos dropping to the bench.

But the biggest surprise is that Jude Bellingham has also been rested by the Real Madrid boss.

Instead, Real Madrid go in with the quartet of Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, and Brahim Diaz in their diamond midfield setup. The latter makes his first start for Real Madrid this season.

Up top, Joselu returns to the starting lineup, pairing up alongside Rodrygo Goes while Vinicius Jr remains on the bench, having only recently returned from an injury.

At the back, club captain Nacho Fernandez starts his first game of the season at the expense of Lucas Vazquez at right-back. Ferland Mendy also gets a look-in at left-back while David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger make up the rearguard that will shield Kepa Arrizabalaga.
