The new year harbours great news for the Real Madrid management from a squad fitness standpoint. The Spanish giants, who have been reeling under an injury crisis in recent months, are after all set to receive some much-needed returns.

VInicius Jr., Arda Guler, and Eduardo Camavinga were all rumoured to be amongst the returnees for January, and the trio is all at the cusp of complete recovery.

Onda Cero provides an update on Real Madrid’s prodigal French midfielder.

At the doorstep

As revealed by the Spanish publication, Eduardo Camavinga is already training with the group as of the start of the new year. However, rushing him for the team’s clash against Mallorca tomorrow would be testing limits.

He will thus be out of the squad available at Ancelotti’s disposal tomorrow, and a return in time for the Copa del Rey opener against Arandina is possible.

Considering that the cup game is against a relatively lower-ranked opposition, he could realistically start for the team only against Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup.

Vinicius and Arda Guler, meanwhile, are likely to be called up against Mallorca.

Midfield dilemma

Real Madrid have decided against signing a new centre-back this winter, for the management trust in Aurelien Tchouameni to provide cover amidst the growing injury list. Heading into tomorrow’s clash, the men in white thus face a consequential crisis in midfield.

With Nacho Fernandez out through suspension and David Alaba now out for the long term, the Frenchman is expected to play alongside Antonio Rudiger in central defence. Camavinga’s unavailability on the night thus leaves Ancelotti with few options.

Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are both expected to start in midfield, with Federico Valverde well-placed to take the third spot.

Real Madrid are just days away from their highly anticipated Champions League final showdown against Borussia Dortmund.

Once the final has been played, planning for the summer transfer window will be in full swing, with the topic of arrivals and departures likely to be discussed.

One of the players facing an uncertain future is Nacho Fernandez. The Real Madrid captain has yet to disclose his future ambitions, despite nearing the end of his contract.

Nacho opens up about future

While he previously claimed that he had already made his decision, a shift in tone can be observed now, with Nacho asserting that he will soon sit with the club and his family to evaluate the best course of action

For now, the 34-year-old remains focused on the Champions League final and does not wish to draw any unnecessary attention.

“Future? The focus is on the final now. After that, I will sit with the club, Ancelotti and my family and I’ll decide what’s the best thing for me,” he told El Chiringuito.

Fernandez acknowledges the fans’ support

Additionally, the veteran centre-back claimed that he does need a grand farewell to know how much the Madrid faithful appreciate him.

“That love the fans have for Toni is the same they have for me. I don’t need a farewell to know the fans love me,” he reflected.

Nacho has devoted his entire career to Real Madrid, rising through the ranks from the youth academy and spending over two decades with the Merengues.

However, he has alluded to the possibility of perhaps donning the colours of a different jersey.

“Sometimes the circumstances are not right to be a ‘one club man’,” he cryptically claimed.
