Paris Saint-Germain have endured a very difficult start to the year. If their early elimination from the UEFA Champions League was not enough, there is growing tension between the players, particularly surrounding the future of their stars.

Lionel Messi has been closely linked with a return to Barcelona, with rumours suggesting that the Argentine international has lost his affection for PSG.

In a recent update from Jorge Picon, it appears even Kylian Mbappe, the Real Madrid target, is losing with patience in PSG with each passing day. The club have continued to underperform in Europe despite bagging all the top players across the world.

Not to mention, the board failed to heed Mbappe’s suggestions last summer, including the acquisition of a new number nine. Coupled with PSG’s underwhelming performances in Europe, it seems Mbappe’s faith in the club is starting to deplete.

Earlier today, the 24-year-old issued a statement lashing out at the club over using clips from an interview he had given to promote season ticket sales for next term. All this has led to speculations over his future, especially with his contract expiring next year.

As per the report, Real Madrid are closely monitoring the situation. They are not actively looking out for options to sign Mbappe in the coming summer, but they are passively observing the saga on the sideline.

Mbappe was close to signing for Real Madrid last summer before he made a surprising U-turn and renewed his contract at PSG. It seemed that the communications between the two entities had been lost completely after that debacle.

But it seems Real Madrid have continued to monitor the Frenchman’s situation at PSG. The Spanish giants have no intention to make a move in the summer, however. The only way they are going to make an effort in Mbappe is in 2024 when his contract at PSG comes to an end.

This is hardly surprising as Real Madrid are not in a position to finance a deal for Mbappe in the summer, as the former AS Monaco starlet is likely to cost a fortune.

Hakan Calhanoglu raised many eyebrows in the summer of 2021 when he left AC Milan to join arch-rivals Inter Milan on a free transfer.

It was a move that surprised many, but more than two and a half years later, Calhanoglu’s acquisition has turned out to be a masterstroke from Inter Milan’s end.

During his time at Inter, the former HSV starlet has featured in 125 competitive matches, racking up 23 goals and 24 assists. He has eclipsed his AC Milan numbers, which is quite a feat to achieve.

Calhanoglu hails himself as the best playmaker

Hakan Calhanoglu’s performances have been particularly impressive in the ongoing campaign. The midfielder has been involved in 14 goals this term, including 11 goals.

In light of his performances, Calhanoglu has raised eyebrows by hailing himself as the best playmaker in the world, in a recent interview.

“I’m the best playmaker right now,” Calhanoglu said, shortly after Inter Milan’s narrow 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid.

The Turkish international went on to name a few more players who he thinks are the best playmakers after him.

Calhanoglu notably mentioned Real Madrid superstar Toni Kroos, stating (h/t DAZN), “After me Rodri, then Toni Kroos, Kimmich and Enzo Fernández.”

The Turk’s decision to add Kroos to his list is highly surprising as the German maestro has been quite important to the Real Madrid team this season.

Even at the of 34, Kroos has remained an integral part of the Real Madrid midfield. His experience and leadership have been crucial in guiding an otherwise young midfield unit.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for another veteran Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric.

The Croat is reportedly unhappy with his current role in the first team and is likely to leave Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season.
