Real Madrid started off the season oozing optimism, as the Merengues emerged triumphant versus Athletic Club with a 2-0 victory.

Rodrygo and Jude Bellingham stamped their names on the scoresheet, but one of the most promising takeaways for Los Blancos was the exhibition of Aurilien Tchouameni, who was already showcasing signs of his revival in the pre-season tour of the US.

Real Madrid uninterested in selling key man

And according to David Ornstein, a number of elite teams, including Liverpool, have long admired Tchouameni.

But Real Madrid sees the midfielder as an important member of their team and does not contemplate his sale, with the player also eager to make a name for himself in the Spanish capital club.

Reports earlier began to brew about the Merseyside giants making an inquiry for the French defensive midfielder, having missed out on Moises Caicedo and Romeu Lavia.

However, Madrid value Tchouameni, with the club investing €100 million in the player last season.

Liverpool’s interest in the 23-year-old has not been a first-time occurrence, as they looked to land his signature before Real Madrid purchased Tchouameni from Monaco.

Having rejected their proposal once before, Tchouameni intends to stay with Los Blancos, and the club are also eager to retain the highly talented midfielder.

The Merengues’ willingness to retain Tchouameni does not come across as a bolt from the blue, given that there is no other option in the squad with a similar profile.

Tchouameni’s form fluctuated in his first season at Madrid, with the player plying his trade outside of France for the first time.

But as he eases in and adapts to the team’s dynamics, his contributions as well as his worth to the team are growing day by day.

Just as a comment in general concerning the area which is really lacking power in the squad of Real Madrid,i wonder how can it be if Valverde may be used between Rodrigo and Vinicius whilst the team is wihout the real number 9.Vini and Rodri can manage to contain defenders and this may give Valverde a good space of shooting at goals as he will be set by the two flanks just as it has been with Bezema..

Following Barcelona’s awe-inspiring comeback win against Celta Vigo yesterday, the pressure is on Real Madrid to regain top spot in La Liga as they travel to Civitas Metropolitano to lock horns against Atletico Madrid.

The first Madrid derby of the season will not feature Vinicius Jr, who had to pull out of the travelling squad today due to a stomach bug.

Jude Bellingham has been given the green light, though, and is likely starting as the out and out striker for this game, with Joselu benched. The Englishman is joined by Rodrygo by his side, while Luka Modric plays behind them as the attacking midfielder.

Behind this trio, Toni Kroos has been handed the keys as the pivot, with Aurelien Tchouameni benched. Eduardo Camavinga starts alongside Federico Valverde as the central midfielders.

Lucas Vazquez fills in for the injured Daniel Carvajal at right-back, while Fran Garcia comes back to take over his left-back spot from Nacho. David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger round off the quadrant in central defence, screening Kepa in goal.

Confirmed Madrid XI: Kepa; Vazquez, Rudiger, Alaba, Garcia; Valverde, Kroos, Camavinga; Modric; Rodrygo, Bellingham
