In light of the injuries that have befallen a number of Real Madrid players in recent weeks and months, there has been a lot of chatter about the club going into the January window looking for reinforcements.

Recent reports particularly highlighted the possibility of Los Blancos signing a new forward as Vinicius Jr. is out of action until February 2024, leaving Carlo Ancelotti with Rodrygo and Joselu as the only senior, natural attacking options.

It had given way to speculations about Real Madrid weighing up a move to sign Argentine hitman Mauro Icardi from Galatasaray in the upcoming January window.

The former Inter Milan and PSG striker has been in good form this season, netting 15 goals across all competitions for the Turkish outfit.

Nothing to Madrid-Icardi talks, says Romano

However, the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano has moved to quash any talk of Mauro Icardi moving to Real Madrid during the winter trading period.

As per the Italian transfer expert, Real Madrid have no intentions of signing Icardi or any other player in January despite the spate of injuries in the squad.

As such, there has been no contact between Real Madrid, Icardi, and Galatasaray and at this point, there are no plans from the Merengues to change that either.

The Spanish capital giants continue to maintain that they do not plan on signing any player in January and do not intend to change their stance unless there are more injuries.

Looking for in-house solutions

With Real Madrid not looking to reinforce the squad in January, they must dip into their academy and reserve ranks to cover for the absence of the injured players.

And, as far as the attacking department is concerned, it appears that Castilla striker Gonzalo Garcia is all set to get a first-team push in the matches to come, having made a big impression over the past year and a half at the youth levels.

Speaking in an interview with Sport BILD (h/t AS), Germany legend Michael Ballack has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Wirtz is a player that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring for a while now, with the German sensation being seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement yesterday.

A move for Wirtz is being planned for the summer of 2025 and Ballack believes that the Bundesliga title winner with Leverkusen is ready for the big move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid,” said Ballack.

“In terms of football, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB: when you play with even better players, you become even better,” he added.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2027. As things stand, the new German champions have no intentions of selling their prized asset this year.

However, there appears to be an acceptance that the German international will be on the move in 2025.

Other top clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested, but Real Madrid are likely to beat them in the race should it come down to that next year.

A move for Wirtz, though, could cost in excess of €100 million for Real Madrid should they do indeed decide to proceed with his signing next year.
