Nico Williams of Athletic Club has become a much coveted player in the transfer market thanks to his immense potential and a contract that expires in 2024.

Even though there have been reports of him signing a new contract with the Basque club, nothing is closed yet and clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid remain attentive to the 21-year-old winger’s situation.

Barça have held an interest in the Spanish international for some time now, but Real Madrid have also taken a liking to the young attacker.

Real Madrid offered Nico Williams

Amidst this, MARCA journalist Jose Felix Diaz (h/t Madrid Xtra) is reporting that Real Madrid have been offered an opportunity to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club.

Williams has been one of the breakout stars in La Liga over the past year or so and has been in very good nick this term, having posted a tally of one goal and seven assists from ten league appearances.

Given his promise and potential, it is natural for top clubs to have taken note of Williams, more so when one factors in his contractual situation at Athletic.

However, the aforementioned report adds that even though Real Madrid have been offered Nico Williams, they are, at this point, not considering his signing.

It must be remembered that Los Blancos are eyeing a marquee attacking addition for the next summer and have long been linked with the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, with one of the two superstars likely to arrive in Spain.

As such, a move for Nico Williams might not be pursued by the Merengues, especially if the 21-year-old ends up signing a new contract with Athletic Club.

Speaking in an interview with Sport BILD (h/t AS), Germany legend Michael Ballack has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Wirtz is a player that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring for a while now, with the German sensation being seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement yesterday.

A move for Wirtz is being planned for the summer of 2025 and Ballack believes that the Bundesliga title winner with Leverkusen is ready for the big move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid,” said Ballack.

“In terms of football, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB: when you play with even better players, you become even better,” he added.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2027. As things stand, the new German champions have no intentions of selling their prized asset this year.

However, there appears to be an acceptance that the German international will be on the move in 2025.

Other top clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested, but Real Madrid are likely to beat them in the race should it come down to that next year.

A move for Wirtz, though, could cost in excess of €100 million for Real Madrid should they do indeed decide to proceed with his signing next year.
