Real Madrid optimistic about Vinicius’ injury, player back to training with a ball

Real Madrid have been dealing with a swarm of injuries since before the 2023/24 season even began, with Thibaut Courtois picking up an ACL tear that is expected to keep him sidelined until the very end of the campaign.
Eder Militao suffered the same fate against Athletic Club, and is also set to miss most of this season.
Arda Guler picked up an injury before even playing his first game for Real Madrid, while Vinicius, Ferland Mendy, and now Daniel Carvajal have already treated or are still treating their first knocks.
Guler, Vinicius expected to return soon
There is a positive update, though, as Mendy has returned to the squad list against Union Berlin and is expected to play his first game of the season, albeit most likely coming off the bench.
Further, according to a report from Rodra, Real Madrid are optimistic about Vinicius’ injury regarding his return date. The Brazilian started training with a football today, and will soon return to group drills, as well.
Vinicius started the season unsurprisingly well, scoring against Almeria, but also putting in an impressive shift against Athletic Club on the opening day.
He had to be taken off against Celta Vigo even before the clock hit the 20-minute mark due to a muscle injury.
Guler, too, is expected to be back in team training by Monday, and could be back in the team by next midweek.
Team vs Union Berlin
Real Madrid have Mendy back in the squad to face Berlin, but have left out Daniel Carvajal, who picked up a muscle injury in training. He will be replaced by Lucas Vazquez at right-back, and has Vinicius Tobias called up as a backup.
Fran Garcia is expected to start at left-back ahead of the returning Frenchman, though, while David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger man central defence.
Carlo Ancelotti confirmed a start for Luka Modric in midfield, likely alongside Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, and Jude Bellingham.
Rodrygo and Joselu should round off the XI as the forwards.

Official: Real Madrid starting lineup against Las Palmas

Real Madrid will be looking to return to winning ways as they get set to take on UD Las Palmas in a couple of hours at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Following the derby debacle against Atletico de Madrid last weekend, it is imperative for Los Merengues to bounce back strongly tonight.
With kick-off not very long away, Carlo Ancelotti has announced the starting lineup that will be stepping onto the pitch to face Las Palmas.
Ancelotti has changed things a fair bit from the derby defeat, with both Luka Modric and Toni Kroos dropping to the bench.
But the biggest surprise is that Jude Bellingham has also been rested by the Real Madrid boss.
Instead, Real Madrid go in with the quartet of Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, and Brahim Diaz in their diamond midfield setup. The latter makes his first start for Real Madrid this season.
Up top, Joselu returns to the starting lineup, pairing up alongside Rodrygo Goes while Vinicius Jr remains on the bench, having only recently returned from an injury.
At the back, club captain Nacho Fernandez starts his first game of the season at the expense of Lucas Vazquez at right-back. Ferland Mendy also gets a look-in at left-back while David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger make up the rearguard that will shield Kepa Arrizabalaga.
