Real Madrid out-of-favour midfielder misses training due to ankle injury
Already completely out of favour under Alvaro Arbeloa, Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos is now also dealing with physical problems after suffering discomfort in his right ankle.
According to a report from MARCA, it has come to light that the Spanish midfielder trained individually indoors today, working in the gym instead of joining the rest of the squad on the pitch.
The issue officially places him among Real Madrid’s growing injury list, which already includes players such as Dani Carvajal, Arda Guler, Ferland Mendy, Eder Militao and Rodrygo.
Yet internally, the latest setback is not expected to have any effect on Real Madrid’s plans in any significant way.
Why is that?
The reality is that Ceballos had already disappeared entirely from Arbeloa’s sporting plans long before the ankle discomfort emerged.
The midfielder has not played a single minute since recovering from injury at the start of April, despite being medically available for selection.
His absence from recent matchday squads against Real Betis and Espanyol only intensified speculation surrounding his deteriorating relationship with the coaching staff.
As such, reports continue to point toward major tension between player and manager throughout the season.
What initially started as disagreements over role and playing time has escalated into a much more serious confrontation in recent weeks, creating a situation that now appears impossible to repair.
Sources close to the club believe the relationship between Ceballos and Arbeloa has completely broken down, and even a potential managerial change would not alter the midfielder’s future.
At this stage, Real Madrid and the player have made peace with the fact that a separation this summer is inevitable.
Although Ceballos remains under contract until 2027, the midfielder has already accepted that this will be his final season at the club.
Madrid, meanwhile, are prepared to facilitate his departure as part of their squad restructuring process, as they also see practical benefits in moving on from him.
Real Madrid are set for a quiet end to the summer transfer window, with El Larguero confirming that the club has no plans for either an incoming or outgoing transfer on deadline day.
That brings an anticlimactic conclusion to a window in which Madrid initially moved aggressively.
The club completed several notable additions early on, but their activity slowed considerably once it became clear that further recruitment depended on players leaving the squad.
Hence, there will be no late scramble at the Bernabéu, with the current squad expected to remain intact.
Real Madrid’s transfer plans changed
Real Madrid were among the more active clubs at the start of the summer, bringing in Denzel Dumfries, Bernardo Silva, Carlos Espi, Yan Diomande and Marc Cucurella.
However, their approach subsequently became more cautious.
The club had identified further midfield options, including Manu Kone and Kees Smit, but creating space for additional arrivals required departures, which proved to be the stumbling block.
No member of the current squad was prepared to leave, regardless of their position in the pecking order.
On that note, Eduardo Camavinga was one of the players whose future attracted attention, particularly because Madrid had been open to the possibility of a sale if the right proposal arrived.
But the player’s position never changed.
Anton Meana provided further clarity on the situation, saying,
“I spoke with Camavinga’s immediate circle. I wouldn’t say they laughed, but they said there was never any possibility of him leaving all summer.”
Camavinga and Asencio close the door on exits
Camavinga’s stance effectively removed one potential route for Real Madrid to add a new midfielder this summer.
Since there were no meaningful negotiations for his departure, the midfielder was never genuinely close to leaving.
That also means speculation about a late approach from Manchester United or another Premier League club can now be put to one side.
The same applies to Raul Asencio.
The defender’s future had also become a talking point during the latter stages of the window, but he has no desire to leave Real Madrid either.
So, with neither player pushing for an exit, the club has little reason to make a late change.
