It has been quite a while since Real Madrid have been associated with a move for Girona right-back Yan Couto and if a report from AS is to be believed, the record European champions have been doing their homework regarding the 21-year-old.

Interestingly enough, Real Madrid have been paying close attention to him while also collecting information on the 21-year-old in order to prepare a detailed report on his performance for further assessment.

This is why when they host Girona at home today, the scouting and sporting department will pay close attention to his performance.

It must be noted that Couto is not Girona’s permanent acquisition. Rather, the right-back is currently in his second loan tenure with the Spanish team from Premier League outfit Manchester City.

Juni Calafat a big admirer

It goes without saying that Couto is catching the eye of Real Madrid as a potential future star. The Girona defender has been performing exceptionally well this season, standing out as one of the best right-backs in La Liga.

Furthermore, the aforementioned outlet affirms that Juni Calafat, the person responsible for recruiting players like Vinicius and Rodrygo, is a strong supporter of the 21-year-old joining Real Madrid as he is impressed by the youngster’s technical skills and performance this season.

The immediate hurdle

Despite Madrid’s interest, there is a hurdle to overcome as Couto currently belongs to Manchester City, and it’s uncertain whether the English club would be willing to let him join their Champions League rivals.

The advantage for Real Madrid is that Couto’s contract ends in 2025, making this upcoming summer the last chance for Manchester City to earn a significant amount from his transfer.

It is to be noted that Couto’s playing style is often compared to Marcelo’s, known for his offensive abilities.

So far in the season, the 21-year-old has two goals and seven assists following which he was named the Best U-23 player in the league in December, beating the likes of Jude Bellingham, Nico Williams, Julian Araujo, and Take Kubo.

In a huge update, Mario Cortegana of The Athletic is reporting that Real Madrid have reached a verbal agreement with Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies over a transfer, either in 2024 or 2025.

Real Madrid have been in direct contact with Davies’ camp through chief scout Juni Calafat and CEO Jose Angel Sanchez for some time now. And since the beginning of the negotiations they have asked the 23-year-old not to renew his contract with Bayern, that expires in 2025.

There have been multiple meetings between the two parties in recent times, one of which took place earlier this month, following which the process has sped up.

There are two possibilities on the table for Real Madrid as far as Davies’ transfer is concerned. Firstly, the Spanish capital club could sign the Canadian left-back for a ‘below-market price’ this summer. Or they can wait until 2025 to land him on a free transfer.

Even though there has been tentative interest from Barcelona and clubs in England, Davies’ preferred destination has always been Real Madrid. And a verbal agreement is now in place between the two parties.

Bayern, for their part, are still attempting to convince Davies to sign a contract renewal, but recent reports suggest that they believe the player will leave.

As such, they would be against losing him for free next year, meaning they will be open to negotiating a fee for the Canadian.

Just a while ago, we reported that Real Madrid are preparing to start negotiations with Bayern, who want €50 million for Davies, although Los Blancos could open with a smaller offer worth around €35 million.

Either way, with a verbal agreement secured with the player, Real Madrid appear set to land Davies, either this summer for a fee, or in 2025 for free.
