With simply a scant few days remaining until the transfer window swings open, the atmosphere crackles with speculation.

And the imminent inauguration of the January window casts a spotlight on Kylian Mbappe, who is more than a familiar face in the Madrid newspapers by now.

Last summer, after unrelenting drama, the Frenchman finally ended up committing his future to PSG.

However, he did not renew his contract, which means Mbappe will officially be a free agent next year and is free to sign a pre-contract with any team starting from the first of January.

The plot thickens

Now, The Athletic have come out to rekindle the age-old ties between both parties, with reports that Real Madrid will soon make an offer to Kylian Mbappe.

But the information further states that he has time only until mid-January to give his answer.

Any further delays or holdups will imperil his chances of ever donning the Royal White jersey, with a deadline, awaiting his verdict, set in motion.

Mbappe has no shortage of suitors, as teams from the Premier League have always shown great interest, which most notably includes Liverpool.

Perez an advocate for the operation

Despite the last few years imprinting the perception that Mbappe has been leading on Madrid as he continues to stay put in Paris, there apparently does not seem to be any resentment from club President Florentino Perez.

Indeed, the report argues that the World Cup winner has direct contact with Florentino Perez, who is a huge supporter of the signing

However, time is running out for Mbappe and a verdict will be expected by mid-January.

Speaking in an interview with Sport BILD (h/t AS), Germany legend Michael Ballack has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Wirtz is a player that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring for a while now, with the German sensation being seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement yesterday.

A move for Wirtz is being planned for the summer of 2025 and Ballack believes that the Bundesliga title winner with Leverkusen is ready for the big move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid,” said Ballack.

“In terms of football, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB: when you play with even better players, you become even better,” he added.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2027. As things stand, the new German champions have no intentions of selling their prized asset this year.

However, there appears to be an acceptance that the German international will be on the move in 2025.

Other top clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested, but Real Madrid are likely to beat them in the race should it come down to that next year.

A move for Wirtz, though, could cost in excess of €100 million for Real Madrid should they do indeed decide to proceed with his signing next year.
