Real Madrid players believe they should have scored more goals against Barcelona – report

Real Madrid booked a place in the finals of the Copa del Rey with an emphatic 4-0 victory over FC Barcelona on Wednesday night at Camp Nou.
Having gone into the game with a 1-0 deficit from the first leg, Los Blancos romped to a resounding victory over their eternal rivals to set up a date against CA Osasuna in the final and earn a chance to end their Copa del Rey drought.
After a watchful start, Real Madrid took the lead close to half-time through Vinicius Junior before Karim Benzema scored a brilliant second-half hattrick to heap misery on Barcelona.
Now, according to COPE (h/t Madrid Xtra), Real Madrid players are very happy with their performance against Barça. However, they believe that they should have scored more goals on the night than they managed to.
There were chances for Los Blancos to net more goals at Camp Nou. Rodrygo Goes had a very good opportunity to find the back of the net right after Benzema had made it 3-0 in the second period.
Benzema himself could have scored a goal just before his third when his glanced header from a Marco Asensio cross drifted wide. The latter, who came on as a second-half substitute, himself drew a save from Marc-Andre ter Stegen just before the fourth goal.
So, Real Madrid had chances to add more gloss to the scoreline which ultimately ended at 4-0 and they believe they should have taken those opportunities.
Regardless of that, it was a top showing from Carlo Ancelotti’s men and they must ensure to keep performing at this level for the remainder of the season if they are to win the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League.

Official: Marco Asensio leaves Real Madrid on a free transfer

Real Madrid have officially announced that winger Marco Asensio will be leaving the club as a free agent at the end of the season. The Spaniard was between a contract extension and departure for a very long time, and eventually decided it was best for him to leave.
Asensio joined Madrid eight years ago, as a 20-year-old, and was loaned out to Espanyol during his first season in the top flight, where he scored four goals and gave ten assists across 34 appearances.
He has since been a key member of Real Madrid’s team, often dropping in and out of starting lineups, though. During his time at the Santiago Bernabeu, Asensio has won three UEFA Champions Leagues, four FIFA Club World Cups, three La Ligas, and three European Super Cups.
“Real Madrid fans will never forget their path and their exemplary behaviors during all this time. Madrid is, and will always be, his home,” the farewell announcement said.
Now, rumours suggest that Asensio will heading to Paris to join PSG on a Bosman move.
