Real Madrid have gone down the route of nurturing young talents in recent years, be it in the form of new signings or academy graduates.

According to reports from AS, the club took another big step towards the same objective earlier this week.

Los Blancos renewed the contract of Real Madrid C striker Angel Carvajal and tied him down to the club for another four years, thereby securing his future in the Spanish capital.

A rejuvenating spell

While Carvajal has always been seen as a player with great potential, he was forced to take a step backward last season to reignite his career.

The Spaniard did not hesitate to move down from Real Madrid’s Juvenil B to Rayo Alcobendas in the fifth division of Spanish football. For the U-19 side, he scored a stunning 24 goals and finished only behind the now Real Madrid Castilla starlet Gonzalo Garcia.

At 19 years of age, Carvajal’s perseverance and statistics are beyond impressive. It is not difficult to see why the Merengues hope to strike gold in the striker.

Under Raul’s tutelage

Now back in Madrid, Carvajal will work with the club of his dreams in the hope of climbing up the ladder quickly.

He is currently a member of the Real Madrid C team and is the starting number 9 for the side. With Raul closely monitoring his growth and potential, the ball is in his court to impress and utilise his chance.

There is still a long way to go before the youngster can dream of making his debut for the senior team. Yet, his long-term renewal is a testament to the club’s confidence in his ability and he will look to make the most of it.

As for the current campaign, Carlo Ancelotti will look to count on Joselu and Rodrygo as his primary strikers.

Following Barcelona’s awe-inspiring comeback win against Celta Vigo yesterday, the pressure is on Real Madrid to regain top spot in La Liga as they travel to Civitas Metropolitano to lock horns against Atletico Madrid.

The first Madrid derby of the season will not feature Vinicius Jr, who had to pull out of the travelling squad today due to a stomach bug.

Jude Bellingham has been given the green light, though, and is likely starting as the out and out striker for this game, with Joselu benched. The Englishman is joined by Rodrygo by his side, while Luka Modric plays behind them as the attacking midfielder.

Behind this trio, Toni Kroos has been handed the keys as the pivot, with Aurelien Tchouameni benched. Eduardo Camavinga starts alongside Federico Valverde as the central midfielders.

Lucas Vazquez fills in for the injured Daniel Carvajal at right-back, while Fran Garcia comes back to take over his left-back spot from Nacho. David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger round off the quadrant in central defence, screening Kepa in goal.

Confirmed Madrid XI: Kepa; Vazquez, Rudiger, Alaba, Garcia; Valverde, Kroos, Camavinga; Modric; Rodrygo, Bellingham
