Real Madrid’s long-standing interest in Dean Huijsen appears to be in jeopardy, as Bayern Munich have stepped up their pursuit of the 20-year-old Bournemouth centre-back.

According to a record from Fichajes, the Bundesliga giants are now leading the race for the Spanish-Dutch defender, potentially hijacking a move Los Blancos had been quietly preparing for months this year.

Huijsen has quickly become one of the most talked-about young defenders in Europe. His composure, physicality, and ability to play out from the back have earned him praise across the continent.

At just 20 years of age, the defender already looks like a player geared up for the highest level — something Real Madrid had hoped to capitalise on as part of their ongoing assignment to refresh their backline.

Bayer appear to be racing ahead

Meanwhile, it is said that Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has identified Huijsen as a priority signing this summer.

The former Manchester City captain is willing to approve a major shake-up in defence to house the Bournemouth star.

Furthermore, the defender’s €58 million buyout clause makes him a high-value target for any top club, and Real Madrid appear to be fading away with this price.

As such, Huijsen has remained calm amidst the transfer speculation, but the opportunity of a bidding war cannot be ruled out — particularly now that Bayern appear geared up to behave decisively.

Real Madrid, who have built their recent success on identifying younger talent early, have pinpointed Huijsen as their favourite candidate, but there are many factors working against them.

With the summer window drawing near, the pressure is mounting. If Bayern pass first, Los Blancos risk losing one of their top defensive targets to a European rival.

According to reports in Italy, as relayed by MARCA, Real Madrid are interested in Scott McTominay, the 29-year-old midfielder who has flourished at Napoli in Serie A after leaving Manchester United in 2024.

As per the report, negotiations over the Scottish midfielder’s contract renewal have become complicated, raising the possibility that his departure could be brought forward.

Renewal complications open the door?

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis does not consider renewing the Scottish international a priority, even though his current contract expires in June 2028.

The player’s representatives, however, want to resolve the situation as soon as possible.

Given the situation, Real Madrid have made enquiries with McTominay’s camp, although the Spanish club are not the only side monitoring his situation.

The reports on the 29-year-old Scotsman are understood to have made an impression at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the club on the lookout for reinforcements in midfield.

The former Manchester United star does not exactly fit the profile of a controlling midfielder, someone who can dictate the tempo from the centre, that Real Madrid are looking.

Nonetheless, his contract situation seems to have put those at Valdebebas on alert.

A special relationship with Mourinho

McTominay is a player Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho knows well. The Portuguese coach handed the Scottish international his Manchester United debut at the age of 18 in 2017 and has continued to refer to him affectionately as “my boy”.

McTominay has also been asked directly whether he would consider joining Real Madrid if Mourinho called him about a move to the Spanish capital.

“If he called, I would think about it,” the midfielder admitted, leaving the door open to the possibility.

McTominay has developed into one of Napoli’s key players, with his goals, physical presence and influence helping him establish himself as a major figure at the club.

With Real Madrid reportedly making enquiries and his contract situation still unresolved, his future could become one of the stories to watch in the transfer market.
