In light of several injuries throughout the course of the season, Real Madrid have been forced to enter the market.

The Spanish giants are particularly in search of a new centre-back, as they look to add more support and backup for the injured David Alaba and Eder Militao.

While a new player is unlikely to arrive in January, plans are already being made for the summer transfer window.

Real Madrid targeting move for Jarrad Branthwaite

According to Daily Mail, Real Madrid are exploring many defensive options in the market, one of which is Jarrad Branthwaite.

A product of the Carlisle United youth academy, Branthwaite has been a rising star in the Premier League this season, becoming a first-team regular for Everton.

At the age of just 21, Branthwaite has shown exceptional maturity and his strong physique makes him an appealing target for Real Madrid.

The Spanish outfit have received gleaming reports about the Everton whizkid, with the player himself having close ties to Carlo Ancelotti.

It was, in fact, the Italian mastermind, who had given Branthwaite his first-team debut, during their time together at Everton.

Tottenham, Man United also interested

Real Madrid, though, are expected to face stiff competition in the race to sign Jarrad Branthwaite.

That is because the 21-year-old Englishman has also been courted by Premier League giants such as Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

While Jude Bellingham’s resounding success at Bernabeu this season is sure to put Real Madrid in a good light, as far as the English players are concerned, acquiring the services of Branthwaite could be tricky.

The young defender will only be available in the summer and Everton are likely to demand a fortune for his services, especially in light of the club’s current financial situation.

Given the fact that Real Madrid may have other priorities in the summer, Manchester United and Spurs could indeed be better positioned to sign the player.

Real Madrid midfielder wants to follow in Kroos’ footsteps and retire at the club

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos recently shared that he plans to retire after this season. Now, according to a report from MARCA (h/t Madrid Zone), it seems Luka Modric, another key player, might also be eyeing retirement in Madrid.

Modric, who is 39 years old, has an agreement in principle with Real Madrid to stay for one more season. However, with manager Carlo Ancelotti’s backing for both Modric and Kroos to stay, it has come down to the fact that only one will remain at the club.

Is Modric returning now?

No, not yet. Like Kroos, Modric wants to finish his career at Real Madrid. If he wanted to retire, he would not have agreed to extend his contract.

It is to be noted that Modric is currently one of the top earners at Real Madrid, but his high salary did not align with his reduced playing time.

Despite his wish to stay, the club was not initially keen on keeping him under such terms.

However, things have changed recently. The club is now considering renewing Modric’s contract due to several reasons.

First, the midfielder is open to a pay cut and second, his positive influence on younger players like Arda Guler is valued. Lastly, his desire to retire as a Madrid player is a significant factor.

Interestingly, Modric has turned down tempting offers from Saudi Arabia and the MLS to stay with Real Madrid.

Throughout this season, the Croatian international has accepted his decreased playing time, although it was challenging for him given his competitive spirit and pride.

His role might diminish further once Real Madrid find a replacement for Kroos next season, but for now, Modric will continue to be a prominent figure for the team.
