Following the ACL injury sustained by David Alaba, Real Madrid have decided to enter the market in the January transfer window for a new centre-back, considering that Eder Militao is also out with a long-term knee injury.

Several names have been mentioned as possible targets for the Merengues, one of whom happens to be Zenit St. Petersburg’s Robert Renan.

The 20-year-old towering centre-half has been linked with Real Madrid for some time now and was touted as one of the options that the Spanish capital club are considering for the winter window.

Robert Renan set to slip out of Real Madrid’s hands

However, according to a report from AS, Real Madrid are now likely to miss out on the signing of Robert Renan in the first month of 2024.

This is because Brazilian club Porto Alegre are closing in on the signing of the 20-year-old defender on loan from Zenit.

Indeed, as per the report, Porto Alegre have practically closed the deal for Renan. Sources close to the club say that “only a few documents need to be exchanged” to close the loan deal for the Brazilian defender.

Renan was seen as one of the best options to reinforce the centre-back position by Real Madrid as he met several criteria set by the club. For starters, at 20, he is young and is a left-footed centre-half with a bright future ahead.

Head of recruitment, Juni Calafat, had personally earmarked him as a target, but it appears that Renan will now be heading back to his homeland.

What are the other names on Real Madrid’s radar?

Apart from Renan, Real Madrid are also looking at the Portuguese duo of Goncalo Inacio (Sporting CP) and Antonio Silva (SL Benfica), but both are expected to cost in the upwards of €50 million.

Raphael Varane of Manchester United is also an option, but the former Real Madrid man is not being considered as a serious target at the club.

There have been links to another former player in Mario Gila, who is plying his trade at Lazio and could be a good cost-effective option.

This Juni just wanna make money from Madrid. Just call Raul and ask to provide best cover for 1st team or simply calling back all on loan players like Rafa Marin or best left back like Gutierrez. Castilla players. Madrid have such qualify players at their Castillas. What a waste. Bellingham is just lucky for Madrid to have him even though expensive but worth it. Not all players Madrid bought are perform. Think again.

A recent report from Defensa Central has revealed that Real Madrid are interested in signing Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich, hoping to secure the deal for a fee between €30 million and €35 million.

Currently, Real Madrid’s main focus is on their upcoming Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund.

As a result, they have not been concentrating much on their summer transfer plans. However, despite this distraction, their interest in Davies has been reignited, marking another step towards bringing him to Madrid.

It is said that Davies remains a key target for Real Madrid and the club is strategising to make a move for him, believing that the time and situation are on their side.

It is to be noted that Davies’ contract with Bayern Munich ends in 2025, and there are no indications that he plans to renew it. Real Madrid are banking on this uncertainty to pressure Bayern into selling him.

Bayern ready to part ways with Davies

It is said that Bayern have made their stance clear regarding Davies: he must either extend his contract or be sold this summer.

Davies has not yet made his decision known, although Bayern suspect he is leaning towards leaving. He hasn’t responded to their offer of a salary increase, which would pay him around €13 million gross per year.

Bayern are unwilling to raise their offer and are keen to resolve this situation quickly to plan for the next season.

Real Madrid are loving this drama

As days pass, Davies’ market value decreases slightly due to his inconsistent season, marked by injuries and patches of poor performance.

Bayern are under pressure to sell him to avoid losing him for free later, which has led to a reduced asking price.

Real Madrid are aware of this situation and remember Davies’ impressive performance in the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals at Santiago Bernabeu, where he scored a spectacular goal.

Real Madrid are in no rush

For now, Real Madrid are aiming to sign Davies for as little as possible within the €30 million to €35 million range.

They are in no rush since they already have two capable left-backs in their squad—Ferland Mendy and Fran García—and are considering buying back Miguel Gutierrez. Thus, securing a new left-back isn’t an urgent need for them.

Nonetheless, Real Madrid are committed to acquiring the Canadian star. Their scouting team has long recommended him, and negotiations have been ongoing since last summer.

There is already a verbal agreement between Davies and Real Madrid, indicating that the club’s interest is serious and well-planned.
