Real Madrid set to offer midfield legend a contract extension until 2025 – report

Toni Kroos has etched his name in Real Madrid history and will go down as one of the club’s greatest-ever midfielders. Over the years, he has become the epitome of consistency and has rarely disappointed when on the field for Los Blancos.

His role, however, has changed with time. Kroos began as one of the world’s finest attacking midfielders but has dropped into a deeper role in recent seasons as a result of his age. His versatility and experience make him an invaluable option for Carlo Ancelotti and his plans.

Last dance?

At 34 years of age, there has been reasonable doubt over the German superstar’s future at the club. After all, Kroos is not one to back away from an early retirement if he feels unimportant in the team.

Despite the influx of young talent, however, Kroos has continued to be one of the manager’s top choices in the middle of the park this term. He has racked up 21 appearances in La Liga alone with seven assists as a goal to his name.

According to reports from Cadena SER, Real Madrid see the German as capable of leading the midfield for one more season at least and will not look for any new signings. Instead, the Merengues will offer him a renewal until 2025, and it remains to be seen if the player sees eye to eye with the management.

Short extensions

Kroos has always maintained that he will only stay at the club as long as he feels important. Another aspect he has remained firm about is that he will retire after his career at Real Madrid, for he wishes for an exit at his highest level.

His contract was set to run out last summer, and talks of his retirement did the rounds back in May. After much deliberation, Kroos signed a one-season extension with the understanding that he would once again decide at the end of the season.

If his numbers are anything to go by, however, renewing for one more season would appear a no-brainer. One can thus remain fairly confident that Florentino Perez will get the deal across the line.

Real Madrid will sign off on their successful La Liga campaign today with a fixture against Real Betis at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The game, being seen as a final preparation for the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund, sees manager Carlo Ancelotti field his strongest possible lineup.

All eyes will obviously be on the retiring Toni Kroos, who bids goodbye to the Bernabeu in what will be his final home game as a Real Madrid player.

The German international starts in the centre of the park alongside Federico Valverde, while Eduardo Camavinga slots in as the No. 6.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid captain, Nacho Fernandez, also starts in what could be his last game at the Bernabeu as well.

Nacho pairs up with Antonio Rudiger in defence, flanked by the full-back pairing of Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy. Thibaut Courtois starts in goal ahead of Andriy Lunin and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Up front, Vinicius Jr. starts in attack, partnering up with Rodrygo Goes. Top scorer Jude Bellingham occupies the attacking midfield role for Real Madrid.
