Real Madrid squad effectively closed as lack of exits blocks further signings
Real Madrid may still like opportunities in the market, but their squad is effectively full, leaving the club with very little room to complete further signings before the window closes.
The club have made as many as six signings so far and a few sales, but Jose Mourinho now has a full roster at his disposal.
Now, according to Javi Herraez on Cadena SER, Madrid already have all 25 first-team slots occupied, with Thiago Pitarch also remaining around the senior set-up despite holding a reserve-team registration.
No room for new signings
In principle, it leaves Madrid with no room for new signings unless some players in the current first-team squad leave.
The club continue to monitor the market and have shown interest in players such as Sergio Martinez from Racing Santander.
Herraez also explained Madrid’s difficulty with selling players. He gave the example of Eduardo Camavinga.
Madrid may be open to offers for the French midfielder, but Camavinga has no intention of moving.
Endrick is also staying, while Rodrygo’s long-term injury removes another possible avenue for a departure.
Raul Asencio is one more player who is on the exit ramp, but there is still no certainty that he will leave the club this summer.
High salaries causing the obstacle
There is another obstacle too: wages.
Herraez argued that once players arrive at Real Madrid, they often move onto salaries that make them difficult to sell later.
If a player performs well, Madrid usually renew him on better terms. If he struggles, other clubs are reluctant to take on both the salary and the sporting risk.
This is a vicious cycle that Los Blancos now find themselves caught in.
Mourinho would still like a midfielder and a central defender
Should Madrid somehow manage to make sales happen, the club could look to bring in more players for Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese tactician is said to be keen on signing a new midfielder and another central defender for his squad.
More pertinently, it shows that despite Madrid giving him a revamped squad to work with, there are still a couple of issues to address.
It remains to be seen how Madrid go about navigating these final few weeks in the transfer window and whether they manage to sign anyone.
In what will come as a pleasing development for fans, Fabrizio Romano reports that Real Madrid forward Rodrygo could make a comeback from his injury earlier than expected.
The 25-year-old Brazilian international has been out of action since March after suffering an ACL injury during a La Liga game against Getafe.
Due to the complete rupture of the ACL, coupled with associated meniscus damage, it was suggested that the attacker was staring at a lengthy time out on the sidelines and might not return until 2027.
In fact, the forward’s father, Eric Goes, recently stated in an interview that the Real Madrid ace could be back in February next year, just before the business end of the campaign.
Rodrygo could be back in December
However, as per the update from Romano, Rodrygo’s comeback could happen well before that expected date.
Indeed, if things continue to progress at the current rate, the 25-year-old attacker might return to action in December or by January 2027 at the latest.
This will come as a welcome boost for Jose Mourinho & co., considering that Rodrygo is a valuable player for the team.
Even though he had endured a tough spell prior to his form, the Brazilian’s versatility, work rate off the ball, and eye for a goal make him an asset.
Rodrygo eager to be back at his best
The update from Romano further states that Rodrygo feels very grateful to Real Madrid for all the help and support they have given him during this difficult phase of his career.
As such, the Brazilian international has made it a mission to return to action in the best shape possible and make an impact from the get-go.
The attacker has only recently begun working on the pitch with the ball indicating the significant progress he has made on the road to recovery.
And, if there are no setbacks, Real Madrid could recover one of their ace attackers before the end of the current year.
So far in his career, Rodrygo has made 297 appearances for Real Madrid, scoring 71 goals. He has a contract with the club until 2028.
