Real Madrid are intent on signing Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies in the summer transfer window. But his potential acquisition would create a stockpile of left-backs in the squad as Carlo Ancelotti has Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia at his disposal already.

As such, if Davies were to arrive one of the current players, either Mendy or Garcia, would have to leave the club in the summer transfer window, reports AS.

Given that Garcia was signed only last summer and Mendy’s contract expires in 2025, logic would dictate that Real Madrid part ways with the Frenchman, more so considering his injury problems.

But it appears that there is an internal debate over the 28-year-old left-back’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Coaching staff, board not in agreement over Mendy

Indeed as per AS, Ancelotti and his coaching staff are very much in favour of Mendy staying at the club, more so with his performances on the rise recently.

It is well-known that Ancelotti is a huge admirer of the 28-year-old, whose market value stands at €20 million, with the Italian terming him the best defensive left-back in the world not very long ago.

In fact, Mendy is still ahead of Fran Garcia when it comes to the pecking order under Ancelotti even though the summer arrival has proven to be a far more effective player when it comes to attack.

However, the Real Madrid board does not share the same views when it comes to Mendy. For the management, the 28-year-old is a potential saleable asset for the coming summer.

In fact, the Merengues would have been open to selling him last year itself when Saudi Arabian clubs had come knocking, but in the end it was called off.

So, as things stand, the staff and the club board do not see eye to eye when it comes to Mendy’s situation. And it remains to be seen how things are resolved if Davies arrives in the summer.

Real Madrid will sign off on their successful La Liga campaign today with a fixture against Real Betis at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The game, being seen as a final preparation for the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund, sees manager Carlo Ancelotti field his strongest possible lineup.

All eyes will obviously be on the retiring Toni Kroos, who bids goodbye to the Bernabeu in what will be his final home game as a Real Madrid player.

The German international starts in the centre of the park alongside Federico Valverde, while Eduardo Camavinga slots in as the No. 6.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid captain, Nacho Fernandez, also starts in what could be his last game at the Bernabeu as well.

Nacho pairs up with Antonio Rudiger in defence, flanked by the full-back pairing of Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy. Thibaut Courtois starts in goal ahead of Andriy Lunin and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Up front, Vinicius Jr. starts in attack, partnering up with Rodrygo Goes. Top scorer Jude Bellingham occupies the attacking midfield role for Real Madrid.
