Real Madrid kickstart their Copa Del Rey campaign on a positive note by securing a 3-1 victory over Arandina.

It was a convincing performance from a largely new-look Real Madrid side, as Carlo Ancelotti had opted to rest most of his key players out.

While Arda Guler became the talking point of the game, Dani Ceballos, too, was among the players with a rare opportunity on the night.

However, shortly after the game, MARCA published an article that rated the performance of all the Real Madrid players against Arandina.

In that article, the author rated Ceballos as the worst-performing player on the night. He blamed the midfielder for slowing down the game and often looking for passes that are almost impossible.

Dani Ceballos, though, has hit back at the MARCA article through X. He retweeted the MARCA article, urging the author to ‘use glasses’.

It appears Ceballos was extremely disappointed with the way he was rated by MARCA, perhaps understandably so.

While the midfielder was slow in moving the ball sometimes, his performance had improved drastically as the game progressed.

The former Arsenal star was also brilliant in controlling possession and helping Real Madrid stay on top of the game.

Ceballos’ prospects at Real Madrid

Unfortunately for Ceballos, though, his performance against Arandina is unlikely to have any impact on his role in the Real Madrid team.

The Spaniard has fallen behind in the pecking order this season and has failed to even start a single league game.

That is unlikely to change anytime soon, especially as Real Madrid continue to put their faith in talented youngsters such as Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and Jude Bellingham.

Speaking in an interview with Sport BILD (h/t AS), Germany legend Michael Ballack has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Wirtz is a player that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring for a while now, with the German sensation being seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement yesterday.

A move for Wirtz is being planned for the summer of 2025 and Ballack believes that the Bundesliga title winner with Leverkusen is ready for the big move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid,” said Ballack.

“In terms of football, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB: when you play with even better players, you become even better,” he added.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2027. As things stand, the new German champions have no intentions of selling their prized asset this year.

However, there appears to be an acceptance that the German international will be on the move in 2025.

Other top clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested, but Real Madrid are likely to beat them in the race should it come down to that next year.

A move for Wirtz, though, could cost in excess of €100 million for Real Madrid should they do indeed decide to proceed with his signing next year.
