The coming few months promises to be an emotional rollercoaster for Nacho Fernandez.

With uncertainty brewing over his future, the defender could be playing his last game for Real Madrid when they take on Borussia Dortmund on June 1.

As per reports today, Nacho’s career with the Spanish national team could also be cut short, with the player unlikely to be called up for the upcoming European Championship.

Nacho’s father on Spain inclusion

Over the years, Nacho has been quite unlucky of sorts, as far as his fortunes in the Spanish national team are concerned.

Throughout his career, the veteran always had to live under the shadow of Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique.

But with neither an option for Spain anymore, Nacho was expected to gain a place in the Spanish squad this summer, especially after a tremendous campaign with Real Madrid.

In light of reports over Nacho’s potential snub, his father, Chema Fernandez, reflected on the player’s misfortunes in a recent interview.

“It makes me sad that Nacho has to reach this situation to deserve to go to the Euros. Does Nacho really have to do so much to be able to go with Spain?

“I think we are all aware that Nacho has always had to prove more than others. They have been unfair to him,” he said (h/t Madrid Xtra).

Chema further pointed out that Nacho’s misfortunes with the Spanish national team is a mere byproduct of his long spell at Real Madrid – a club that can magnify both ups and downs.

Chema also praised Nacho for having a wonderful season at Real Madrid, notably leading Los Blancos to a league title.

“He has had a great season, but due to two red cards it seemed that he was having a bad season. I heard Nacho was finished, now I hear that he is in the best moment of his career.

“Neither one thing nor the other. That’s what Real Madrid do, it magnifies everything for the good and the bad,” he added.

In the meantime, Nacho will be waiting cautiously as Spain coach Luis de la Fuente announces his final 23-man roster in the coming days.

Speaking in an interview with Sport BILD (h/t AS), Germany legend Michael Ballack has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Wirtz is a player that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring for a while now, with the German sensation being seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement yesterday.

A move for Wirtz is being planned for the summer of 2025 and Ballack believes that the Bundesliga title winner with Leverkusen is ready for the big move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid,” said Ballack.

“In terms of football, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB: when you play with even better players, you become even better,” he added.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2027. As things stand, the new German champions have no intentions of selling their prized asset this year.

However, there appears to be an acceptance that the German international will be on the move in 2025.

Other top clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested, but Real Madrid are likely to beat them in the race should it come down to that next year.

A move for Wirtz, though, could cost in excess of €100 million for Real Madrid should they do indeed decide to proceed with his signing next year.
