Everything looks fine and dandy for Real Madrid as they have started the season with a comprehensive 2-0 win and boast a formidable squad, brimming with youth talent.

But there is a significant problem brewing under the surface at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Luka Modric unhappy at Real Madrid

According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, not everyone is happy with the structural change going on at Real Madrid at the moment.

It appears Luka Modric is currently unhappy with his role at the Bernabeu. Before the start of the season, the midfielder had penned a contract extension with the hopes of remaining a key component of the team.

However, Modric has hardly played a key role since. Even in pre-season, the Croat was not used much by coach Carlo Ancelotti.

The Italian mastermind has instead put his faith in young guns such as Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, and new signing Jude Bellingham.

January exit possible for Modric

Ancelotti’s team selection for the season opener against Athletic Club was the breaking point for Modric.

The Croatian international was left out on the bench alongside Toni Kroos as Real Madrid started with young players.

Modric was allowed to come on only for the final ten minutes of the game. It was a real blow for the veteran, who is now allegedly regretting his renewal at Bernabeu.

If the situation does not improve going forward, there is a possibility Modric could leave the Bernabeu in the winter transfer window.

Ancelotti, though, has recently assured both Kroos and Modric that their situation could change week by week, hinting that he might look for more rotations as the season progresses.

That would be selfishness on the part of Modric. His time is fast passing and should understand that. He could leave in January.

I call bs on this being true. If you followed Modric’s career for as long as I have, you would know that he always puts the team and his teammates first so this is just media bs. Of course Ancelotti is going to put the new guys in the first few games of the season. He needs to see them as a team so he can make any adjustments to his strategy going forward.

With Kylian Mbappe’s signing now a completed objective, Real Madrid turn to what was always considered the second most critical operation of this summer – Alphonso Davies.

The Canadian full-back has been on Los Blancos’ radar for a while now, but with his contract with Bayern Munich running until 2025, his signing is seen to be a tad bit more complicated.

The Bavarians’ firm stance that they wish to persist with the speedster, needless to say, has only made the objective more complicated for Los Blancos.

No room for three

Despite Bayern Munich’s repeated advances towards Davies in recent weeks, Real Madrid are firm that they will attempt to sign the player this summer.

In light of the Canadian full-back’s possible arrival, Cadena SER reveals that Ferland Mendy will almost certainly leave Real Madrid if Davies’ signing is pulled off.

Carlo Ancelotti is clear that he has no room for three left-backs in his squad. One of Fran Garcia and Mendy must thus leave the Spanish capital in such a scenario and the Frenchman is better placed on that front.

Mendy’s current deal in Madrid runs out next year and the player has been informed that a decision over his future at the club will be taken shortly.

On track with Davies

The Spanish outlet also reveal that the Canadian speedster rejected an offer from Bayern Munich in recent hours and that his departure from the Bavarian capital is not ruled out.

Bayern Munich demand a sum of €50 million for the dynamic full-back. Real Madrid, however, have set a spending limit of €30 million for the youngster and will not exceed that sum in any scenario.

Vincent Kompany’s men thus have a critical decision to make, for allowing Davies to run down the final year on his deal may well back-fire as did the case of Kylian Mbappe with PSG.

Real Madrid, as it stands, appear to be in the driver’s seat.
