Real Madrid superstar’s contract talks temporarily halted – report
Real Madrid are facing one of the biggest decisions as uncertainty continues to surround Vinicius Jr.’s contract renewal.
While the Brazilian winger has repeatedly expressed his desire to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu, negotiations over a new deal have lost momentum, leaving both parties with important issues to resolve in the coming weeks.
The current agreement expires in 2027, giving the club time on paper.
However, with no breakthrough in sight and the possibility of other clubs entering the picture, Real Madrid are keen to avoid allowing the situation to drag on.
According to OKDiario, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo, discussions between the club and Vinicius’ representatives have been paused until the player returns from his summer break, but the differences that caused talks to stall remain in place.
Vinicius contract talks remain deadlocked
For much of the summer, there was growing confidence that Vinicius would extend his stay in Madrid, especially after a call from Jose Mourinho.
That optimism has now faded as negotiations have reached an impasse, with the main obstacle being the financial package attached to a new contract.
The Real Madrid forward is seeking a salary that would either make him the club’s highest-paid player or place him on the same financial level as Kylian Mbappe.
The club, however, has taken a different stance. While Real Madrid are prepared to reward Vinicius with an improved deal, they are unwilling to restructure their wage hierarchy or commit to what they believe would be an unsustainable financial commitment.
As things stand, neither side has softened its position, leaving the Vinicius renewal negotiations at a standstill ahead of another round of talks.
Florentino Perez hoping to find a breakthrough
Right now, club president Florentino Perez has taken personal charge of the discussions, and despite the current deadlock, there remains hope that an agreement can eventually be reached.
The Brazilian has consistently spoken about his desire to continue wearing the white shirt, and those close to the negotiations believe there is still room for compromise once discussions resume after his holiday.
At the same time, there is growing recognition within the club that alternative scenarios cannot be ignored if no progress is made.
In fact, several reports suggest Real Madrid are keeping every option available, including the possibility of listening to offers should the contract situation remain unresolved.
No formal proposal has arrived at Valdebebas so far, but the uncertainty has naturally increased speculation surrounding the winger’s long-term future.
After a month into the new season, Aurelien Tchouameni is finally back in action for Real Madrid.
The Frenchman made his first appearance of the season for the Merengues last night against Inter Milan after recovering from the muscular injury that delayed his campaign.
His return to fitness had raised questions over where he would fit into Mourinho’s plans.
Tchouameni has been a regular in Real Madrid’s midfield for several seasons under different managers, but the end of last season was far less straightforward.
His confrontation with Federico Valverde, combined with speculation over his future at the club, created uncertainty about his position. His lack of a proper pre-season also appeared to put him behind other midfield options.
Bernardo Silva had established himself as an important figure, while Eduardo Camavinga was also ahead of Tchouameni in terms of match fitness.
With Real Madrid looking for greater creativity in midfield, there were questions over whether the Frenchman would still be a first-choice player.
Key for Mourinho
According to AS (h/t Bernabeu Digital), however, Mourinho has no such doubts. Tchouameni remains a key player for the Portuguese coach and is expected to be a starter.
Mourinho sees the French international as a midfielder without a direct replacement in the squad.
For Jose, Tchouameni provides something that none of the other midfielders in the squad do – a more defensive and positional presence, combining his tactical discipline with considerable physical strength.
His ability to shield the defence and provide balance could be particularly important for a Real Madrid side that want to defend aggressively and attack quickly in transition.
For that reason, his absence at the start of the campaign has not changed the manager’s view of his importance.
Mourinho faces a midfield selection problem
The challenge for Mourinho now is finding a way to fit all the pieces together.
If Tchouameni is guaranteed a starting position and Valverde is considered untouchable as captain, the obvious consequence is that Bernardo could find himself starting from the bench.
The summer arrival had been given an important role in helping Real Madrid control and distribute possession from deeper positions.
However, with Tchouameni and Valverde both occupying midfield places, Mourinho cannot accommodate everyone in the same lineup.
