Real Madrid teenage prodigy’s legs need time to regain 100% fitness – report

Arda Guler’s debut for Real Madrid arrived over six months after he signed for the club. Repeated injuries halted his progress at the club, and it was only earlier this month that he donned the white colour jersey for the first time.

Since then, however, his playing time has once again regressed. He was given eight minutes against Atletico Madrid and as many minutes in the team’s recent clash against Las Palmas. However, the fact remains that he is far from a starter under Carlo Ancelotti.

Guler’s enemies

As revealed by MARCA, the Turkish phenom’s meagre playing time so far is due to a host of reasons. The first, and perhaps most important one is the fact that he is not quite there physically.

Guler may have overcome his injuries, but his legs still require time to acclimatise to the hectic workload. Once his legs are ready to feature for prolonged periods, he will receive starts.

The second reason for his reduced prominence, which the Spanish outlet labels as his ‘worst’ enemy, is the competition in Real Madrid’s midfield.

In Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Brahim Diaz, Federico Valverde, Dani Ceballos, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, the manager has no shortage of resources at his disposal.

Considering that most of Real Madrid’s recent games have seen uphill battles and comeback wins, the match situation has never been favourable to give the player a casual run-in.

Chances will come

The manager gave Guler his league debut in the team’s recent win over Las Palmas as a reward for his patience and quality.

In fact, the Turkish starlet even had a chance to score on the day but could not control the ball and provide the finish.

Chances will arrive at his doorstep as the season progresses but will happen in due course of time. After all, Real Madrid are aware that he is a signing for the long term and prioritises his overall fitness over an instant impact that could prove costly later.

Speaking in an interview with Vamos (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has acknowledged that Real Madrid ace Jude Bellingham is the No. 1 footballer in the world currently.

Bellingham has enjoyed a spectacular debut season at Real Madrid and has been one of their chief protagonists as the Merengues won the La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup titles and made it to the UCL finals.

Even though his form has somewhat dipped in the latter stages of the season, the England international remains integral to Carlo Ancelotti’s plans and one of Los Blancos’ most important players.

And Spain manager Luis de la Fuente expressed his admiration for Bellingham, saying:

“He is a player who is doing particularly well. It’s a subjective view, but I like Bellingham’s style a lot, I like that type of player, powerful….”

When asked if Bellingham is the No. 1 player in the world at the moment, De la Fuente replied in the affirmative, as he said: “I think so.”

Bellingham has played 40 times in all competitions for Real Madrid this season, racking up a total of 23 goals and 12 assists in the process.

The 20-year-old’s exploits with Los Blancos in his debut campaign have put him in contention for the Ballon d’Or this year.

A strong performance in the finals of the UEFA Champions League next month and a solid run with England at the UEFA Euro 2024 could further his chances of winning the Golden Ball, although his teammate Vinicius Jr. is also an equally strong contender.
