The Santiago Bernabeu hosted a special game last night between Spain and Brazil as part of the ongoing international break.

The Selecao were coming off a narrow 1-0 win over England at Wembley, where the winning goal was scored by none other than soon-to-be Real Madrid player Endrick.

The teenage phenom came on for Brazil in the 71st minute of the night and required under nine minutes to make his impact on one of the world’s biggest stadiums.

Needless to say, there was tangible excitement in the Spanish capital ahead of last night’s face-off, given it would likely house Endrick’s debut at the stadium of the club he is set to join.

A masterclass performance

The game between Spain and Brazil lived up to its hype in every aspect, for it showcased high-quality football between two young sides.

The coach, Dorival Jr, called up on Endrick at half-time when the score was 2-1 in Spain’s favour. The youngster stepped onto the turf of the Bernabeu, and within five minutes, netted the equaliser for his side.

His goal stemmed from a Rodrygo corner which fell kindly to the Brazilian phenom after a poor clearance. With composure from the edge of the box, he drilled a low bullet past Unai Simon to level the scores.

Endrick’s debut goal vs Spain:

In his 45 minutes on the grasses of the Bernabeu, Endrick completed 100% of his dribbles and long balls, made one key pass, and had one shot on target.

The 17-year-old phenom could not have hoped for a better debut at the Bernabeu.

Perez has a word with Endrick

Having scored vital goals in two of Europe’s most iconic stadiums in less than a week, it is safe to say that Endrick is ready for the big stage.

In less than three months, the youngster will link up with Carlo Ancelotti and Co. for Real Madrid’s new season, likely alongside Kylian Mbappe and his compatriots Vinicius Jr and Rordygo.

Having a brief word with the player after his heroics last night, Los Blancos’ president Florentino Perez had a word with the 17-year-old phenom as revealed by Fabrizio Romano, saying,

“We are waiting for you here.”

If Endrick’s first game at the Bernabeu is anything to go by, he will rule the iconic stadium for decades to come.

Endrick will surely be against stiff competition at the club, but one would back his talent to comfortably establish his name.

Luka Modric is set to stay with Real Madrid for another season, meaning he will have played more seasons with Vinicius Jr. (7) than he did with Cristiano Ronaldo (6).

Feeling old yet? We thought so too!

Modric joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2012 after four seasons with Tottenham Hotspur. On the other hand, Vinicius Jr. joined Real Madrid in 2018.

By the end of the 2023/24 season, Modric and Vinicius will have spent six seasons together. This is the same number of seasons Modric played with Cristiano Ronaldo, who was at Madrid from 2009 to 2018.

However, with Modric set to stay for another season, he will surpass that, playing more seasons with Vinicius than with Ronaldo, the club’s all-time top scorer.

A new contract for Modric

It is important to note that Real Madrid and Modric have reached an agreement in principle for his contract renewal for another year.

At 38, Modric’s contract was set to expire at the end of the current season. For a while, it seemed the Croatian star might leave Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

However, things have changed recently, and Real Madrid have decided to offer him a new contract.

Interestingly, Real Madrid have also offered a renewal to Toni Kroos with club president Florentino Perez personally involved in the negotiations.

Modric and Kroos will continue

Reports suggest that Modric has agreed to the new proposal, with an agreement in principle now in place. It is also expected that Kroos will accept his offer, meaning Real Madrid will keep both veteran players for another season.

The Croatian was reportedly willing to accept a pay cut and a reduced role in the team to continue playing for Real Madrid. This flexibility may have sped up the agreement process.

His willingness to adapt to a reduced role and accept a pay cut has likely influenced the club’s decision to renew his contract for one more year.
