Arda Guler was sent back to Spain midway through Real Madrid’s preseason camp. As reported by the club, he suffered a tear to the meniscus of his right knee which not only kept him out of action but also prevented him from making his awaited debut.

Prima Facie, the Turkish star’s situation does not appear pleasant. Word has it that he will face a minimum of two months out of action and thus miss the beginning of the season.

According to reports from AS, Los Blancos will not hurry with Guler and remain patient despite the worrying development.

He will be given the full two months to recuperate, and the next step will be decided after seeing his progress in 60 days. Surgical correction is not ruled out if he does not respond to the treatment.

Two surgical options

In the case that Real Madrid opt to go down the surgical route, they will have two options to choose from, reports AS.

Their first option would be to go for resection of the affected part of the meniscus, leaving the viable portion and speeding his recovery. Such a process will leave the player unavailable for a further one to two months.

The other option would be surgical correction by internally suturing the torn ends of the meniscus. While this could prove the better option in the long run, it will put Guler out of action for three to four months postoperatively.

Far from a dream start

Guler and Jude Bellingham sent waves through Madrid with their high level of preseason training last month. Both players were expected to be the highlight of the US tour and their debuts were much awaited.

While Bellingham has already had his moments, such an injury early in his Real Madrid career is brutal for Guler’s confidence.

After all, it will only increase the pressure on his young shoulders. One hopes for a speedy, non-surgical recovery for the prodigy.

Aurelien Tchouameni has had an exciting start to his career at Real Madrid. Since joining the club for almost €80 million last summer, the young Frenchman has now become a pivotal figure in Real Madrid’s midfield unit.

However, prior to his move to Santiago Bernabeu, the midfielder was closely linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

In a recent interview, Tchouameni opened up on his links to PSG but revealed his decision to join Real Madrid.

Talking about speculations linking him to PSG, Tchouameni said (h/t Madrid Zone), “PSG? Frankly, I thought about it. It’s a very big European club, we want the French clubs to succeed.”

“But honestly, when Real Madrid calls you, it’s very complicated to say no,” Tchouameni added.

The midfielder was linked with a move to PSG during his time at AS Monaco. Les Parisiens wanted to sign the youngster as part of their plans to reinforce the midfield unit.

Tchouameni, though, ended up opting for a move to Real Madrid, which turned out to be a prudent decision from the midfielder’s end.

Tchouameni’s career at Real Madrid

Aurelien Tchouameni made a total of 50 competitive appearances during his maiden season at Real Madrid.

Although the Frenchman was not entirely a first-team regular in Carlo Ancelotti’s setup, his stature in the team is expected to grow in the coming years.

Especially as Toni Kroos and Luka Modric move on at the end of the season, there is scope for Tchouameni to become a first-team regular in the Real Madrid midfield in the years to come.

The former AS Monaco starlet has already played a crucial role in the starting eleven so far this season and it is only going to continue as the season progresses.
