Real Madrid have made a critical decision as far as their squadbuilding is concerned, with the Spanish giants on the verge of renewing the contract of Aurelien Tchouameni.

The Frenchman international is expected to sign a new deal until 2031, which would make him one of the highest earners at the club.

This is quite a bold move considering that Tchouameni, not long ago, was marked as one of the players poised to leave the club amid interest from Manchester United.

Tchouameni’s renewal to have repercussions

According to Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid’s decision to renew the contract of Tchouameni may have some repercussions as far as their transfer policy is concerned.

While the renewal will seal the long-term future of a talented French star, who is being seen as one of the best leaders in the team, it could force Real Madrid to not make any new signings in midfield.

Indeed, the report points out that Real Madrid are likely to resist Jose Mourinho’s attempts to sign a new midfielder this summer, as the club simply do not have the economic flexibility to do so.

This is a considerable blow given that Real Madrid’s midfield does lack quality and consistency, especially after the exits of key veterans Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.

Will things change going forward?

The report does point out that Real Madrid could accept Mourinho’s request but only if one of the existing stars leave the club.

With Tchouameni signing a new deal, his departure this summer is pretty much ruled out, leaving Eduardo Camavinga as the only other viable candidate.

While it is no secret that Mourinho wants Camavinga to leave, the player isn’t too keen on leaving Santiago Bernabeu and wants to fight for his place in the team.

Real Madrid have been linked with a move for several midfielders this summer. But unless they can get Camavinga out, a move for midfield target seems unlikely.
