Toni Kroos has enjoyed a stellar career at Real Madrid. Having signed from Bayern Munich in 2014, the German midfielder has achieved great success in Spain, winning several titles and trophies, that include four UEFA Champions League triumphs.

The veteran pass-master has been critical to the success that Los Blancos have achieved during this period, forming a legendary midfield trio alongside Luka Modric and Casemiro. The latter left Real Madrid this past summer and has been since replaced by Aurelien Tchouameni.

But Kroos and Modric continue to be the pillars of this Real Madrid side under Carlo Ancelotti. However, both the veteran midfielders will see their contracts expire at the end of the season. In Modric’s case, though, a one-year extension is reportedly practically agreed.

As far as Kroos is concerned, however, the situation is far from clear, reports MARCA. The 32-year-old midfielder had been offered a new contract by Real Madrid at the end of the last season, but he rejected the deal as he felt it was not the right time to talk about his future.

The former German international reportedly wants to see how he copes physically and mentally in the ongoing campaign before deciding on whether to prolong his contract with Los Blancos or not.

Previously, Kroos’ agent, Volker Struth has dropped hints that Real Madrid will be the midfielder’s final club. The ex-Bayern Munich superstar himself has hinted that he could consider retiring when his current contract expires.

“I think that 2023 is ideal and deliberately chosen. By then I will be 33 years old. Afterwards, we can sit down and decide together if we want to extend the link for one or two more years. I am completely open to that possibility,” Kroos had said in 2021.

Real Madrid, for their part, will be ready to offer him a new deal should he decide to prolong his partnership with the Spanish capital club. The ball firmly lies in Kroos’ court now and only time will tell whether he decides to continue at the Bernabeu or opts to move on.
