After a summer transfer window during which they splurged cash on reinforcements in attack and defence, Real Madrid are already planning to further strengthen the squad in the future windows.

The central defensive department could, once again, be an area that needs attention, considering that Antonio Rudiger’s contract stands to expire at the end of the season.

Moreover, Eder Militao’s physical issues in recent years have also become a cause for concern for Los Blancos.

As such, it is very much possible that a new centre-back arrives in 2027, despite the club signing Dean Huijsen and Ibrahima Konate in the last two summer windows.

Jacobo Ramon being closely monitored

In that regard, Fabrizio Romano reports that Real Madrid are closely monitoring the development and progress of former La Fabrica defender Jacobo Ramon.

The 21-year-old academy product left Real Madrid to join Como 1907 in the summer of 2025 and has enjoyed a rapid rise since the transfer.

Indeed, Ramon has established himself as one of the most promising young defenders in Italy and Europe under Cesc Fabregas, featuring regularly for the Serie A outfit.

Naturally, Real Madrid have taken note of his progress and will continue to monitor him closely. The idea is to assess his development in the coming months before deciding on whether to bring him back to the club in 2027.

€9 million buyback clause

As they do with most young talents leaving the club, Real Madrid inserted buyback clauses for Ramon as well in order to have the option of bringing him back if he exploded in Italy.

According to Romano, the Spanish capital club can now re-sign the 21-year-old academy talent for a nominal fee of only €9 million in the summer of 2027.

The defender, for his part, is not thinking about a move back to the Santiago Bernabeu currently, and remains fully focused on doing well with Como.

“The season has just started and I won’t focus on anything else,” he said in a recent interview.

Ramon made six first-team appearances for Real Madrid before leaving for Como in 2025. If he continues to progress as he has done so far in his time in Italy, it will not come as a surprise to see Los Blancos pulling the trigger on his buyback clause.

“Yes, I’ve been saying it for a long time now. If he avoids serious injury or falls of the rails which he won’t I’m sure.

“He’s so good at football, he’s got everything. He’s a superstar and carries himself like a superstar,” he said (h/t Track Radio).

The verdict chimes comes in the midst of a wider chorus of acclaim in recent days. Roy Keane tipped him to become one of the greatest of all time after the Croatia rout, with Ian Wright and Micah Richards among others queuing up to praise him.

Against Croatia, Bellingham scored one and created three in the 7-0 win, becoming the first England player to record four goal involvements in a single game since David Platt in 1993.

He finished the window with one goal and four assists and was named UEFA’s Player of the Round.

That international excellence has carried over to the Bernabeu, where he has settled into a free number 10 role under Jose Mourinho and sits as the club’s joint-leading creator.

Bellingham was part of Real Madrid’s recent 1-0 win over Villarreal as well, and was unlucky not to register an assist when Vinicius Jr.’s goal was disallowed.

The Englishman will be looking to make an impact once again when Real Madrid take on AS Roma this Wednesday.
