The rumours surrounding Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid just refuse to go away. The PSG superstar was very close to joining the Merengues last year, only for him to make a late U-turn and pen a new contract with the Ligue 1 champions.

The entire saga left Real Madrid with a bitter taste, as they had believed that the signing of one of the best forwards in the game was in the bag. But the late change of directions meant that relations between the club and the player’s camp were ruptured.

Since then, there have been conflicting reports about Real Madrid’s stance on a future move for Mbappe. The 24-year-old, for his part, continues to maintain that he dreams of playing for the Merengues and recent dissension between him and the PSG camp has left the door ajar.

Now, according to The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana, Real Madrid will be ready at the table to make a move for Mbappe if he does decide to leave PSG in the near future.

The Merengues, as per the report, have maintained discrete contact with the Frenchman and his entourage despite what went down in the summer and there has been some movement after the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Mbappe, who won the Golden Boot at the World Cup, is said to have grown frustrated with PSG due to failed promises of strengthening the squad in the summer while he is also unhappy about playing as a centre-forward, as he wishes to play out on the left.

All this had paved way to reports of a possible exit as early as January, but that possibility is no longer on the table.

But, come summer, Mbappe will be entering the final year of his contract as he signed only a two-year contract with Les Parisiens with an option of an additional twelve months that can be triggered only by the player.

So, Mbappe could be an option in the market next summer, although PSG could demand outrageous sums in the range of €400 million for him. Or he could opt to leave for free when his contract expires in 2024.

And Real Madrid will be an option on the table should the scenario of Mbappe’s exit from PSG come to fruition in the coming years, although they are proceeding with caution on the matter, having been burnt last year.

Real Madrid’s collective strength this season cannot be questioned as coach Carlo Ancelotti has assembled a well-oiled side that knows little except bagging victories.

Yet, even in this formidable lineup, Real Madrid’s top scorer this season, Jude Bellingham, stands out above the rest.

The Englishman has exceeded all expectations since joining the Merengues and was once more a key factor for Real Madrid against Barcelona recently.

His last-minute winner against the Catalans saw Madrid essentially confirm their La Liga victory, as the Royal Whites maintain a dominant 11-point lead over Barcelona with seven games left to spare.

Praise from an international teammate

Now, Manchester City sensation Phil Foden, Bellingham’s international teammate and foe from last week has come out to shower praise upon the midfielder.

“I can’t believe his age. I’ve never seen anyone so mature for their age. I feel like he has a gift from God with his physique,” Foden told Mail Sport.

Not only does Foden get to witness Bellingham witness his talents in the English camp, but he also suffered at his hands in Real Madrid’s second-leg quarter-final affair against Manchester City.

Even though the Real Madrid star did not stamp his name on the scoreboard, a moment of great poise under pressure allowed Madrid to take the lead early on.

When asked if Bellingham has ever asked for advice, Foden replied that he does not need any considering he is level-headed and has a supportive family.

“I don’t think he needs any advice, to be honest. He’s an exceptional player. He has a good head on his shoulders. I think he has a good family around him. He is someone I look at, and I don’t see any weaknesses in him,” the 23-year-old claimed.

Bellingham is flying high

In addition to triumphing over Barcelona and Manchester City with great performances, Bellingham was busy collecting wins off the pitch.

Indeed, the 20-year-old was recently awarded the Laureus Award for the Breakthrough of the Year for 2024.

With 21 goals and 10 assists for Real Madrid this season, he has become a beacon of reliability for the Merengues this season.

And the club will be relying on him heavily in the upcoming showdown with Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-finals.
