The Kylian Mbappe transfer saga is set to take centre stage once again come 2024 as his contract with Paris Saint-Germain stands to expire at the end of the season.

Real Madrid continue to be tipped as the Frenchman’s next destination even though PSG are still attempting to renew his contract while Liverpool are also in the picture to try and sign the superstar forward.

Real Madrid, for their part, have alternate plans in place if Mbappe does not arrive, having already missed out on his services on a couple of occasions in the past.

Erling Haaland remains at the top of the wishlist along with Mbappe, while the likes of Victor Osimhen and Florian Wirtz have been named as potential alternatives.

Plan B: Jamal Musiala?

Now, BILD (h/t ESPN) is reporting that if Real Madrid fail to sign Mbappe next summer, they plan to go after Bayern Munich and Germany sensation Jamal Musiala.

The 20-year-old sensation is regarded as one of the best young talents in the game currently and finished second behind Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham in the Kopa Trophy award.

Given his value, Bayern Munich are keen to extend the 20-year-old’s contract, which expires in 2026 but would have to triple his current wages of around €8 million per year.

Despite this, Musiala prefers not to entertain thoughts about his future or a contract renewal at present, with any potential negotiations concerning an extension to be left until the end of the season.

The German international’s noteworthy displays have resulted in four goals and three assists in the 12 matches he has played across all competitions this term.

Man City also keen

A potential transfer would enable Musiala to reunite with his friend Bellingham. However, Premier League and European champions Manchester City are also interested in the German ace.

The Cityzens’ manager Pep Guardiola views the Bayern Munich sensation as a possible successor to Kevin De Bruyne.

If Musiala were to leave Bayern Munich, both Real Madrid and Man City are seen as his most realistic destinations. However, the Bavarians will not make it easy for any clubs to take their crown jewel away.

Real Madrid are back in the Champions League following their impressive win against Cadiz on the weekend as they host Napoli at the Santiago Bernabeu for gameweek five.

They have already secured qualification to the round of 16, and even a point today would secure first place in the group.

With several players still injured, Carlo Ancelotti has opted for his best available starting lineup, with Daniel Carvajal taking responsibility of the captain’s armband at right-back. He will be aided by Ferland Mendy, who starts on the other side.

Meanwhile, in between them, David Alaba returns to the fold as the starting centre-back, partnering Antonio Rudiger. This duo has the responsibility of screening Andriy Lunin, who continues in goal in Kepa and Thibaut Courtois’ absence.

With both Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni out, Toni Kroos gets the chance to play as the holding midfielder for two games in a row. Federico Valverde retains his spot, as well, while Dani Ceballos comes in for the injured Luka Modric in central midfield.

Rodrygo will spearhead the team’s frontline as one of the two twin forwards, while Brahim Diaz gets the nod over Joselu. Jude Bellingham is the final, and arguably the most important piece of the puzzle, playing behind the front-two.

Confirmed Madrid XI: Lunin; Carvajal, Rudiger, Alaba, Mendy; Valverde, Kroos, Ceballos; Bellingham; Diaz, Rodrygo
