Real Madrid will not miss key player in weekend clash, says Las Palmas star: “They have so many great players”

Speaking in an interview with MARCA, Las Palmas star Maximo Perrone has claimed that Real Madrid will not miss their talisman Jude Bellingham in this weekend’s La Liga clash as they have other players to cover for his absence.

Bellingham will miss Saturday’s match against Las Palmas at Gran Canaria as he is suspended for the tie due to accumulation of cards, having picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against UD Almeria last weekend.

Considering that he is the top scorer in La Liga this term, his absence is bound to have an impact on Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will not miss Bellingham reckons Perrone

But Perrone, who is currently on loan at Las Palmas from Premier League champions Manchester City, has claimed that Los Blancos will cope fine without their leading goalscorer this Saturday.

“They have so many great players that it doesn’t matter if Bellingham, who is a great player, is out. His absence will be covered by another great player. We can’t focus on individuals, but on the whole team we are going to face,” said Perrone.

With Bellingham out, Brahim Diaz is in line to replace the Englishman at Gran Canaria on Saturday.

Las Palmas can beat Real Madrid says Perrone

Las Palmas have done admirably upon getting promoted to La Liga this season, having beaten Atletico Madrid and pushed Barcelona to the brink. And when asked about their chances of beating Real Madrid this weekend, Perrone replied:

“We have to counter Real Madrid the way we know how. With the ball, we control the game and the tempo of the match. We’ve approached the week in the same way we’ve approached all the previous games.

“We know what Real Madrid are, we know their strengths and we also know our own. We have to counteract theirs and strengthen our own. That’s the challenge we have. They are the leaders of La Liga.”

Further continuing, he added: “We want to beat Real Madrid and be better than them. If we are at the same level as them, any team can beat us. We have to compete and to do that we have to go to the limit of our possibilities. We have to do that all the time, because that’s how we can compete against Madrid.”

Real Madrid midfielder wants to follow in Kroos’ footsteps and retire at the club

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos recently shared that he plans to retire after this season. Now, according to a report from MARCA (h/t Madrid Zone), it seems Luka Modric, another key player, might also be eyeing retirement in Madrid.

Modric, who is 39 years old, has an agreement in principle with Real Madrid to stay for one more season. However, with manager Carlo Ancelotti’s backing for both Modric and Kroos to stay, it has come down to the fact that only one will remain at the club.

Is Modric returning now?

No, not yet. Like Kroos, Modric wants to finish his career at Real Madrid. If he wanted to retire, he would not have agreed to extend his contract.

It is to be noted that Modric is currently one of the top earners at Real Madrid, but his high salary did not align with his reduced playing time.

Despite his wish to stay, the club was not initially keen on keeping him under such terms.

However, things have changed recently. The club is now considering renewing Modric’s contract due to several reasons.

First, the midfielder is open to a pay cut and second, his positive influence on younger players like Arda Guler is valued. Lastly, his desire to retire as a Madrid player is a significant factor.

Interestingly, Modric has turned down tempting offers from Saudi Arabia and the MLS to stay with Real Madrid.

Throughout this season, the Croatian international has accepted his decreased playing time, although it was challenging for him given his competitive spirit and pride.

His role might diminish further once Real Madrid find a replacement for Kroos next season, but for now, Modric will continue to be a prominent figure for the team.
