Real Madrid will set January 15 deadline for Mbappe to decide on move, Haaland seen as Plan B

At this point, it is clear that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez sees the need for a Galactico signing next summer.

With Los Blancos being relatively short-staffed in attack, it is likely that the big-name recruitment comes in that position.

As has been rumoured for a long time now, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland are the Merengues’ two primary targets. Which one will make the cut, however, depends on a multitude of factors.

Los Blancos’ latest chart

According to reports from AS, Real Madrid have a novel plan of action which will decide whom the club will pursue.

Their primary target is PSG’s Kylian Mbappe who has come close to signing for the club on numerous occasions.

They are confident that the Frenchman will not renew his deal with the Parisiens until January 1st when the club will make an offer to sign him.

This time, however, his decision could be a make-or-break one. If Mbappe does not respond and initiate a transfer from his side by January 15th, Real Madrid will go after Erling Haaland.

The ball, quite clearly, is thus in Mbappe’s court. The Frenchman has it in his control to push for a move to Real Madrid, although the Merengues are accustomed to seeing unwarranted drama in the World Cup winner’s case.

Option Haaland

Erling Haaland has long been on Real Madrid’s radar, and his strong start to life in England has only boosted their interest. The only hurdle, however, appeared to be the transfer fee Manchester City would demand for the goalscoring machine.

At this point, it is well-known that Haaland’s contract has a release clause that will kick in next summer, although it is not clear at what valuation that stands.

Speaking to the media earlier this week, Haaland’s agent Rafaela Pimenta confirmed that the number did not stand at €1 billion.

Real Madrid already have the funds ready to pull off a Galactico signing and the latest update on the Norweigan’s contractual situation only makes him an earlier target.

Needless to say, however, Mbappe will have the first choice as per the latest report.

Speaking in an interview with Sport BILD (h/t AS), Germany legend Michael Ballack has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen sensation Florian Wirtz is ready to play for Real Madrid.

Wirtz is a player that Real Madrid have been closely monitoring for a while now, with the German sensation being seen as a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos, who announced his retirement yesterday.

A move for Wirtz is being planned for the summer of 2025 and Ballack believes that the Bundesliga title winner with Leverkusen is ready for the big move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Wirtz is ready for Real Madrid,” said Ballack.

“In terms of football, Wirtz can definitely play for Real Madrid. You can also see it in Jude Bellingham after his move from BVB: when you play with even better players, you become even better,” he added.

Wirtz has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2027. As things stand, the new German champions have no intentions of selling their prized asset this year.

However, there appears to be an acceptance that the German international will be on the move in 2025.

Other top clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also understood to be interested, but Real Madrid are likely to beat them in the race should it come down to that next year.

A move for Wirtz, though, could cost in excess of €100 million for Real Madrid should they do indeed decide to proceed with his signing next year.
