Real Madrid will sign former defender Fran Garcia from Rayo Vallecano in the summer transfer window, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.

The 23-year-old left-back came through the ranks at Real Madrid and made one senior appearance before leaving for Rayo Vallecano on loan in 2020.

The loan deal was made into a permanent one in 2021, with the Merengues retaining a buyback option as well as a 50% future sell-on clause.

Garcia has developed into one of the most reliable left-backs in La Liga over the past year, catching the eye of the Madrid administration.

With no natural backup for Ferland Mendy in the position, Real Madrid have decided to trigger the buyback option in his contract and will welcome the Spaniard back to the club in the summer window.

Garcia had a release clause worth €10 million in his contract, but considering that Real had a 50% sell-on clause, they will be paying only €5 million for the left-back, who will be signing a five-year contract until 2028.

Bayer Leverkusen made a concerted effort to sign Garcia from Rayo Vallecano in January, which prompted Real Madrid to decide to exercise their repurchase option.

Romano adds that documentation for the transfer is all set between Real Madrid and Rayo Vallecano and the transfer will soon be over the line.

It is a good move by the Merengues as Carlo Ancelotti had some issues in the left-back slot this term. Mendy is currently out injured and with David Alaba keen on playing at centre-back, the manager has had to rely on the likes of Nacho and Eduardo Camavinga to operate on the left.

Real Madrid will play hosts to Real Valladolid in La Liga today afternoon in an attempt to reduce the deficit between them and Barcelona back to 12 points. While La Liga seems as good as gone at this point, Madrid will want to win as many games as possible for their supporters.

Carlo Ancelotti has a fair few last-minute absences from the squad, but this does not include Thibaut Courtois, who has been deemed fit enough to participate in this game.

The defence is lacking three players, though, with Antonio Rudiger, Nacho, and Ferland Mendy out injured for the clash. The Frenchman is out for at least a month, while others could be back in time to face Barcelona.

The entire midfield is fit and running, with both Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni in the squad list.

Mariano Diaz is the only attacker not part of the hosts. Alvaro Rodriguez is back in after missing the Barcelona clash due to suspension.
