Real Madrid winger subject of an internal debate at Barcelona over summer move – report

The evident debate regarding the reinforcement of the current roster has gathered steam within the Barcelona management so much so that a certain Marco Asensio is now being considered despite the fact that fortifying the wide areas is not a priority.
According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, the Real Madrid winger is still been looked upon as one alluring candidate mostly because his current contract expires at the end of the season and the team from the capital city are undecided on offering an extension.
For that very reason, Asensio’s name has been linked with Barcelona, and it must be remembered that even the player, himself, has not ruled out the possibility of making a switch to his team’s title rivals.
At Barça, there is an internal debate going on regarding Asensio’s availability and in that regard, the team from Catalonia is looking into every possible outcome.
To begin with, signing a player from a direct title rival on a free transfer would pose some kind of dominance. Secondly, at just 26 years of age, he is someone who can make a difference immediately and in the future. And the only fee Barcelona would have to pay for his acquisition would be the signing bonus.
On the other hand, the management is giving deep thought to whether or not his signing is a necessity, mostly because there are other areas that need reinforcing. First up, signing a right-back is the utmost priority.
Then comes the urge to sign a pivot mostly because Sergio Busquets is most likely to leave at the end of the season. Lastly, an understudy of Robert Lewandowski is something that will be a necessity next season.
So in all fairness, acquiring a winger is at the bottom of Barcelona’s agenda at the moment. But in any way, there are some factors that work in Barcelona’s favour when it comes to signing Asensio, as he contributes a lot.
He is a player who is not afraid of taking chances, meaning that his conversation rate from medium to long range is pretty decent. This is something that Barcelona are missing this season.
Furthermore, the player is represented by Jorge Mendes and the Portuguese agent shares a close working relationship with Joan Laporta.
Now, there are still chances that he might continue at Madrid, given that the team is pondering the option of a new three-year deal. But if not, he would seemingly be welcomed at Barcelona.

Real Madrid not in talks with Tottenham Hotspur for 29-year-old forward

According to a recent report from Fabrizio Romano (h/t Madrid Xtra), there is nothing concrete at the moment between Harry Kane and Real Madrid. The two parties have not held any talks and a potential transfer is distant.
Los Blancos’ admiration of the English striker is not a novel development for the Spanish giants have been monitoring his situation for a couple of seasons now.
Tottenham’s high financial demands coupled with Karim Benzema’s breathtaking form kept Kane’s pursuit out of sight, but the situation has now changed.
Real Madrid’s French striker may be the current Ballon d’Or holder but he has struggled to recreate his form this season. His subpar performances and age force the club to look for a new face and Kane is unsurprisingly back in the mix.
The England captain has a contract with Spurs that runs until 2024 and he has not agreed on a new deal with the Premier League side. His dire drought for trophies at the club level could force him to move to greener pastures and there is a long line of suitors awaiting his availability.
Manchester United and Bayern Munich both, like Real Madrid, are in need of a new centre-forward and thus join the Merengues in Kane’s pursuit.
The 29-year-old striker has started 28 Premier League games for Antonio Conte’s side this season, scoring a whopping 21 goals and providing two assists in the process. The fact that his goal tally came off a relatively low xG of 15.6 shows Kane’s effectiveness in front of the goal.
Karim Benzema is likely to renew for another season, but the summer could see the Galacticos go all out for a big-name striker. Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland are some of the other names considered, though it is clear that neither of them would arrive cheap.
