Real Madrid working to sign Haaland in 2024, release clause not related to Guardiola’s renewal
The fact that Real Madrid are interested in signing Erling Haaland when his exit clause comes into effect in 2024 is known to the forward. What he is also aware of is the fact that those sitting in Madrid offices have already enquired about the existence of this clause with his closest entourage.
Now, as journalist Marco Ruiz writes for AS, the exact situation between Los Blancos and the player is that the former has already been informed about the exact variables that the player’s representative Rafaela Pimenta has put in his contract.
To remember, it must be noted that although Haaland’s ongoing deal with Manchester City runs until 2027, he can think of leaving in 2024 and this clause is also valid in 2025 and 2026.
The only difference between these three tenures is the price. If Madrid are to lure him in 2024, they must pay over €220 million for his services. Interestingly enough, the amount will keep on decreasing as he nears the end of his deal.
On the other hand, it is also important to understand that Haaland’s Man City future has nothing to do with Pep Guardiola’s continuity.
In November last year, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager renewed his contract with the Premier League side until 2025. And it has been reported that Haaland’s release clause is no longer valid because of the manager signing an extension.
But, AS reports that, as far as Haaland is concerned, he can leave as early as 2024.
And this is exactly what Real Madrid are working on. At the same time, not everything is as simple as it may seem, as his arrival depends on how convincing the Merengues are.
Apart from the obvious sporting project that has been on top for over a decade, the lure of winning the UEFA Champions League as well as the Ballon d’Or, the team from the capital city might find it hard to fight against an economically powerful Manchester City side.
The constraints of acquiring Haaland in 2024 are certainly not restricted to his salary, but it is also the fact that he has 100% of his image rights.

Paris-Saint Germain, on that front, appears the more probable destination. The French club are close to losing both Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr ahead of the new season, and Asensio would thus fit in as a starting quality winger. Moreover, they offer Champions League football.
The Spaniard’s role at Real Madrid this season has not been minor by any means considering his contributions. In 30 La Liga appearances, the 27-year-old has scored nine goals and provided six assists in addition to creating nine big chances and averaging 1.4 key passes per game.
However, that does not satisfy the winger who wishes to be a starter week in and week out. His departure in June appears to be now written in stone, and the club should feel hard done to not make a penny of his move.
Many in Los Blancos’ administration see Brahim Diaz as a direct replacement for the Spanish international if he leaves. Needless to say, the AC Milan star’s future will closely depend on Asensio’s situation.
