The dream is finally coming true. All of Florentino Perez’s endless negotiations with Kylian Mbappe and his ambition to bring the PSG star to the Santiago Bernabeu appear finally set to come to fruition this summer in what will be a monumental success for Los Blancos.

The Frenchman has already communicated his decision to leave PSG this summer to the club’s hierarchy and there appears to be no going back in his decision. While nothing has been confirmed yet, it appears clear that his priority is to join Real Madrid and negotiations are underway.

What number can Mbappe don?

Over the years at PSG, Mbappe has become synonymous with the number 7 jersey. He will go down in history as one of the Parisiens’ most influential #7s but unfortunately cannot continue donning that number at Real Madrid.

After all, the coveted kit is currently donned by Vinicius Jr, who is one of the club’s biggest poster boys himself and an integral part of the future. As revealed by Mundo Deportivo, Mbappe is thus likely to don the number 10 jersey as he steps into a fresh chapter in his career.

Real Madrid’s #10 jersey has been donned by several of the world’s best players in the past and is currently linked to Luka Modric who is a club legend himself. The Croatian’s contract, however, runs out in the summer and a renewal does not appear to be on the club’s agenda.

Mbappe will thus likely inherit the special kit which is not entirely unfamiliar to him. After all, he dons the Numer 10 jersey himself when on duty with the French National Team and even won the World Cup with the same.

A massive investment

While Mbappe’s arrival at Real Madrid is a free transfer on paper, the economics involved in the deal are indeed massive. After all, bringing in one of the world’s best players is rightfully an economically intensive process.

As revealed earlier today, the French protege will cost Real Madrid close to €500 million over five years. This includes not only the player’s signing-on bonus but also the hefty wages with variables that are likely to be met.

Needless to say, the offices in Madrid only see the situation with optimism. After all, the returns that Mbappe’s signing will have for the club, both in a sporting and financial sense, are massive when compared to the investment Real Madrid are making.

As Real Madrid gear up to face Borussia Dortmund in the finals of the UEFA Champions League this weekend, a number of their players interacted with the press today as part of the UEFA Open Media Day.

Jude Bellingham was one of the stars who answered questions from the media ahead of what will be an emotional game for him against his former club, in his homeland.

The England international has enjoyed a spectacular debut season at Real Madrid and is seen as a strong contender for the Ballon d’Or this season.

However, when asked about the Golden Orb, Bellingham tipped his Madrid teammate Vinicius Jr. as his pick to win the prestigious honour this year.

“For me, Vinicius is the best in the world. He creates magic out of nothing. He has everything to be the best,” said Bellingham, as quoted by The Athletic’s Guillermo Rai.

After all, Vinicius has also enjoyed a scintillating campaign and is one of the frontrunners to walk away with the Ballon d’Or, owing to his clutch performances for Real Madrid.

The Brazilian also spoke to the media today and was asked about the Ballon d’Or. Interestingly, he went on to name Bellingham as his pick to win the Golden Ball.

“I would give the Ballon d’Or to Bellingham,” he said, as quoted by Carrusel.

When Bellingham was informed about Vinicius picking him as the favourite for the Ballon d’Or, the England international responded by saying:

“If that’s how he feels, then you can split it in two (laughs).”

The responses show the strong bond and camaraderie that the two superstars of Real Madrid share.

Both are contenders to lift the Golden Ball this year and a win in the Champions League, coupled with strong performances in the summer’s international tournaments, would further enhance their chances.
