RFEF clarify referee statement over Rodrygo incident vs Las Palmas, release conversation with Real Madrid players

Real Madrid have been in the spotlight recently for all the wrong reasons. The Merengues have done no wrong themselves, but have repeatedly been targeted by the media for being ‘favoured’ by referees.

The saga began with Los Blancos’ win over Almeria last week when three VAR decisions went their way and helped them secure a comeback win. The aftermath of the game was ugly, with figures like Joan Laporta and Diego Simeone openly calling out the referring.

The latest leak

The latest leaked conversation of the referee, as revealed yesterday, takes one back to the team’s clash against Las Palmas at Gran Canaria.

In just the fourth minute of the night, Rodrygo Goes got into an altercation with the goalkeeper Alvaro Valles and was shown a yellow card. The media, however, brought out video footage that the referee, Cesar Soto Grado, told the players that the Brazilian should have seen red but that he did not impose the punishment.

Needless to say, the footage has only furthered the revolt against Real Madrid although it now appears that none of it was true.

The CTA denies the incident

After the latest misinformation, the Technical Committee of Referees has come out on its website to lash out at the leak and put forth the reality that occurred on the night.

According to the CTA, Cesar Soto Grado never stated that Rodrygo should have seen a red card. He only conveyed to the Real Madrid player that had the sides have been reversed, they would claim it to be a very mild red.

“If it were the other way around, you would say that it is very light red,” he said.

The RFEF have called for the involved players to come out and speak publicly about the conversation that unfolded on the night so as to clear any bias. Moreover, they also lashed out at the media for constantly leaking conversations and piling the pressure on referees.

Real Madrid will sign off on their successful La Liga campaign today with a fixture against Real Betis at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The game, being seen as a final preparation for the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund, sees manager Carlo Ancelotti field his strongest possible lineup.

All eyes will obviously be on the retiring Toni Kroos, who bids goodbye to the Bernabeu in what will be his final home game as a Real Madrid player.

The German international starts in the centre of the park alongside Federico Valverde, while Eduardo Camavinga slots in as the No. 6.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid captain, Nacho Fernandez, also starts in what could be his last game at the Bernabeu as well.

Nacho pairs up with Antonio Rudiger in defence, flanked by the full-back pairing of Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy. Thibaut Courtois starts in goal ahead of Andriy Lunin and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Up front, Vinicius Jr. starts in attack, partnering up with Rodrygo Goes. Top scorer Jude Bellingham occupies the attacking midfield role for Real Madrid.
