Rival watch: Liverpool veteran to miss Real Madrid clash due to illness

Liverpool will take on Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg tie away at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.
On the eve of the game, The Athletic is reporting that the Reds’ captain and veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson is set to miss the match due to illness.
Meanwhile, young prospect Stefan Bajcetic also missed training today casting doubts on his involvement. However, the teenage prospect has travelled to Madrid and a final call on his availability could likely be taken on the day of the game.
Henderson has been a regular in the side for Liverpool this season, racking up 31 appearances across all competitions, in which he has two assists.
The 32-year-old, who has played more than 400 matches for the Reds, would have been a handy presence in midfield as his team look to overturn a three-goal deficit from the first leg at Anfield. But, Henderson will not be taking part in the game at the Santiago Bernabeu.
As for Bajcetic, the 18-year-old is growing in prominence this season under Klopp and has been playing very regularly since the turn of the year. And the Liverpool manager will be hoping that the youngster will be ready to play some part tomorrow.
Henderson joins fellow midfielder Thiago Alcantara (hip) on the sidelines, leaving Klopp with limited options when it comes to his starters in the centre of the park.

Real Madrid midfielder has offers from multiple important clubs, but prefers to stay

It goes without saying that Dani Ceballos’ influence at Real Madrid has only grown since the 2022 FIFA World Cup. However, despite that, clouds of uncertainty continue to remain over his future at the club.
It is understood that he is waiting for Madrid to come up with a renewal offer as his current deal expires at the end of the season.
According to Diario AS, Los Blancos had informed Ceballos that they would present him with a new contract towards the end of the season. To this date, though, there has been no proposal put forward by the team.
Ceballos is believed to be happy with his current status at Real Madrid. He does not want a big hike in salary, but what he is demanding is to feel important within the roster.
The Spaniard wants to know whether or not he has a place in the plans of the club and the manager. On the other hand, if Madrid does not offer him a new deal and the player ends up leaving, he knows he will have plenty of options to choose from.
Although Ceballos’ priority is to continue at Real Madrid, he is not closing doors on going abroad. At this moment, while there are no concrete offers, the midfielder has received multiple proposals through intermediaries of several important clubs, yet he continues to give Real Madrid priority.
Apart from the option of going abroad, Real Betis have made him known that he would be welcomed with open arms but given the financial troubles, a return remains an impossible task.
Furthermore, it has also been reported that Atletico Madrid approached the midfielder with an offer but as it turns out, Ceballos has decided to wait for Real Madrid after all.
